So.... When I went to go get my taxes filed, I had some time, stopped in at Gamestop. They're having a nifty little thing, where if I trade in my gameboySP, a new DS is only $99 (:o!), and if I trade in BOTH my SP, -and- my current DSlite (a pink one), plus the 10 dollars back, it'd only be around 15 dollars....
You see. I'm really picky, and I WANT WANT WANT that blue one. Or even the red one. I don't want pink now. However, should I waste all that time/effort/money on a new COLOR (granted, a brand new DS too....)
I'm undecided, I really am. Somehow, theres already dust under the screen on my current one, and so thats slightly bothersome. And my SP....? I just don't play anymore. I have it to play all the oldschool gameboy games. (the ORIGINAL TETRIS BITCH ><;), but... I suppose its time to retire it, if I don't use it. Especially if I can get something out of it.
I hate gamestop and the god awful money they make from Trade-Ins, fuck Gamestop, keep your systems if they're only going to sell for $15. You could make more for them on eBay. I say this being a jaded ex-employee of that hell hole. Thank god I left for a good job.
On the issue of "New DS model", I doubt it any time soon, we're going to get new colors for the DS Lite for the next year or two. I remember reading something to that effect a few months ago, but don't quote me on that.
You're in college, correct? Where did you file your taxes and why were you on your way somewhere to do it? It's fucking free if you make under $54,000 a year. H and R Block even offer it.
i have a perfect condition phat red ds that I got for a birthday present before the lites came out. i wanted a pink lite so I went out and bought one.
moral of the story: trade-ins are bullshit especially since they will turn around and sell it for much more than they pay you so just buy the blue, keep your stuff, or ebay bay it.
Oopps, I forgot to mention, that we're at the tail end of a "Ds Drought", so they're pretty hard to come by retail (at least around Philly) so you may actually be able to fetch a good bit for the DS on ebay within the next few weeks.
Also, it's a game system. My wife and I share one DS, since I rarely use it to begin with. I'm a guy and I have absolutely no problem sitting around playing the Pink DS in public.
Fuck the haters. Also, do what Sadisitic said, except ask for a PS3. Fuck the portables, who has time for them?
I kid, I kid. I know, college people have time for them.
@EDS: ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!?! I got charged 49 bucks. Only -that- cheap, because my dad claims me as a dependent. And yeah, I went to H&R Block. Theres a Gamestop literally next door to it.
Unfournately, the only game stores around here are Game Crazy, Gamestop, Best Buy, and Wal-mart. It saddens me... If I want something strange or old, I gotta go thar. However, I can't totally diss gamestop. I bought a used copy of Morrowind when I first got my xbox, and it's been running strong until I sold it, since I got Game of the Year edition from a pawn shop. Lulz.
@ xarinex: You cannot go to H and R Block at the mall or whatever. You have to go to the IRS website and check out the E-File section. There are over 100 companies who offer the free service. H and R and TurboTax, as well as TaxCut, all offer a free program, and many many more. Keep it in mind next year. You do it over the internet, they ask enough questions to make sure you get all the money you're entitled to.
@EDS: Oh sweet, thanks! My mom only really makes me go there, since I need the specific paperwork for FAFSA and whatnot... D: It saddens me. She'll make me go to H&R block again next year, since I had to pay for my tuition this spring....
EDS: Like I said, it's entirely based on what I've seen, they probably show up in pockets, I've seen a few white ones here and there, but nothing en mass here, but hey, it's all subjective right?
I do my own taxes, honestly. My parents pay for the software, and it takes me 25 minutes to put everything in, and then another 10 minutes to check it. Since you're dealing with FAFSA and all, I imagine it's much more of a bitch to deal with. I could ask my fiance, but I'd really much rather not go there with her :P
If you have the stuff to trade and you want the blue one. You don't really need an advanced if you had a DS (Have you ever NEEDED the next gameboy system when you bought the new one? No, becuse gameboy systems all have backwards compatibility).
I say do it. if you feel it is a waste of time, well, that is your decsicion.
@Neonie: Actually, the DS systems DON'T play the -original- game boy games. Back when that shit was BLACK AND WHITE I'm talking. I've tried it, thusly why I haven't parted with it...
Ah really? Wow That's kind of sad. (though I've lost all my original Gameboy games now I guess that's why I dident know.). I have games from EVERY era sept' for the Original Gameboy and NES (Though I had, at one point in my life, owned both).
But ya if your SP playes your originals and the DS doesnt. Then keep the SP and find another way to get your blue DS.
That's funny EDS since I did mine on wednesday and they were still going to charge me $100. good thing my dad goes there. They gave me the discount so I only had to pay fifty. I only made like $4000 someodd last year (gotta love seasonal work).
er...I'd seriously just ebay it or go on craig's list and sell it. I'm sure there's more than enough people wanting a Pink DS Lite. (get more than enough moms looking for it for their daughters.)
I actually saw some Pink DS Lites in my best buy the other day.Course i'm in maryland.
I'd have to agree with Shin Oni on this one, I got a pretty good deal selling my Nintendo Wii and some games vs. going to Game*cough*ripoff*cough*stop and getting cash credit. If you are going to sell something worth money don't bother with Gamestop.

Trade the SP and DS, and flash them to get some more games.

Just letting you know. I did it last year.

Ichigo Style: I was in GameStop the other day. They have lile, 50 DS Lite's, mostly Pink and Blue. But this is NJ. No shortage here.
In Virginia, I heard we had ABSOLUTELY NO pink Dslites. Made me laugh.

save your money:
1 keep the pink ds.
2 trick out your ds with guitar hero stickers.
