Halo 2 is still far worse for hackers. What you are talking about isnt 'hacking' persay as it was more or less some skript kiddie just disrupting a network. Halo 2, people actually could hack that game to the point where I've seen Spartans run down Ghosts and seen Scorpion tanks outfly Banshees.
That kind of shit always makes me scratch my head.
Why would anyone cheat in a multiplayer video game?
What are they getting out of it? They aren't getting paid to win.
It's one thing to use cheats to explore a single player game or unlock all of its features or whatever. But how is it fun when playing competitively?
It would be like me beating up kids a preschool. Yea I would be guaranteed to win everytime, but what would that prove?
Some people just need to get a life.
"I have to say, to put yourself at a risk of being arrested over a Halo 3 game is pretty hardcore lol."
Sounds pretty fucking dumb to me, and I'm a fan of Halo (I know, we're a rare breed around Dtoid). This is just taking shit too far and ruining the experience for others. Not cool, griefers are dickholes.
"Now, they seem to be taking it to a new level; Using botnet software to find out they're opponent's IP address, then point a few dozen zombie machines at them in a distributed denial-of-service attack."
That takes a lot of fuggin time and effort for such a little payoff.
Hey CHAR.
You are not alone, I love Halo.
@ Char + Sicknasty - I have noticed us Halo fans are indeed a rare breed around these parts.
By hardcore I mean they take the game pretty damn seriously to put themselves at risk like that heh.
gotta love that "closed network" of microsoft live. protection from hackers? at least i know my psn is an open network (ut3 mods) and people still can't hack the encrypted save files let alone the damn system.
"Thoughts?"
how bout post a link to your reports of botnet software ip hacking. i mean, if your going to blog on it after all.
anyway... popular online community is target of grievers. welcome to online
Earlier today I played a couple of matches, and well, the other team was modding 100% guaranteed. After I died, the spawn countdown never ticked down, and I was stuck watching my character dead while the other team was getting the territories.
It was just odd on this occasion that I could actually see them moving from territory to territory when I might usually get a black screen and see nothing besides the scoreboard.
I did read that there was a brand new software mod update a few days ago. It's sad that since Christmas the number of modded/extremely laggy games has gone up more.
Modders = No Skills.
@Otogi Guy - Got this up in a rush while leaving work, so maybe I should of posted the link, but forgot.
"anyway... popular online community is target of grievers. welcome to online "
lolwut. Been playing online for quite a while sir. thank you for the welcome though.
Halo?? Moar liek Gaylo!! Amiritie!?
Also, people who do this deserve to get AIDS as a result of being raped by a bear. A large, muscley grizzly bear.
@ Char, Sicknasty, & XYU
I can relate with you three as well. I am one of those rare people at DToid who actually likes Halo.
I heard there were Halo fans in here.
We should all hide out in here. It's scary outside. There are so many haters.
I agree with Alex. Us Halo fans have to board ourselves up inside some sort of bunker with Bungie so they can keep supplying us with that delicious nectar of gaming.
That or we could just sit around on Fridays and play some games with each other. I heard IRC is good for organising this
Haha this is hilarious. I had no idea Halo was so hated on around here.
Let us band together my brothers!
Why am I the only one who sees the fail in the blog...
"...find out they're opponent's IP address..."

OH NOES HIS GRAMMAR ISNT PERFECT.
Jesus Half, seriously?
And yea, this really sucks, one of the main reasons I don't play online anymore, I'm sick and tired of all the assholes that use exploits because they MUST WIN OR THEY WILL DIE IF THEY DON'T.
Then when you tell them to stop it they say "If its in the game the publisher wants us to use it"
People who play for fun are a dying breed.
Same thing's been happening to me as of late Kyousuke, and it's really killed my drive to play the game. It's probably the most entertaining shooter on the 360 but with all of the cheating that goes on I just find myself playing something that will frustrate me a lot less.
Hacking over an easy game, that's logical. Theres already enough crap in the game to aid you...

The cake resembles kills.
All four get a peice of the cake, even the diabetic.
Halo 3 = Easy... So, why the FUCK would you hack it?
