The Wii is absolutely a great console. Anyone who says it has "no games" is just attention-starved. Yes, the lack of HD may hurt Nintendo a bit in the long run, but I didn't buy the Wii foe photo-realism. I bought it for fun games, and I wasn't disappointed. It IS a cesspool of horrible games, but look at the Move and Kinect lineup now, too.
@Tony Ponce
As I've always said Nintendo is an unstoppable force but the irony is the only company that can seem to hurt Nintendo is Nintendo. And it's not like they don't.
Personally I don't think you'll find many people claiming the Wii is a bad console around here. At least not from people worth listening too. That argument is sooo 2008.

@Xzyliac I do agree that the argument is 2008, but unfortunately is one that still flies round today. I just want to fully understand why people (not all people) neglect their wii. If people are dissing it so much, what's going to happen in the next year when move, kinnect and 3DS are all up and going and they get piled with shovelware?
I often wonder whether it's more the direction of gimmicky, party inanity and/or trendy lifestyle product that the Wii was taken down that made me dislike it rather than the console itself, because I do totally agree with many aspects of the Wii philosophy (simplicity, accessibility, inclusiveness, etc). But then even without all that there's still the motion controls and I think that's the real reason. I'm afraid I just can't stand the tacked on, annoying, tiresome, clunky, wacky waggle. I just don't really find shaking, miming and flailing very fun.
You're absolutely right about people who claim that the Wii has no games. It's a pretty ridiculous notion. Of course it does, it has some amazing games. But for a market leader it's library is very poor. I think the reason for the lack of serious third-party support on the Wii is simply due to a combination of an awkward controller, a lack of power and an overwhelmingly casual user-base.

Haven't played my Wii in almost a year. This saddens me. But I think what I want as a gamer is something the Wii can't offer me at the moment.
Nintendo used Kirby's Epic Yarn
It's super effective
"Wii has no games argument" feinted.
Also, you forgot Muramasa

I was very skeptical when the Wii came out. I wasn't sure if it could compete with Xbox or PlayStation, but it is here and has made a definite impact if they are following.
As for me, I love my 360, but I love my Wii. When the parties happen, the Wii is definitely better to have around because of the whole "screen-watching" argument with four player split screen. Besides, having people playing even just Wii sports is entertaining. I will say that big names like CoD have tried the Wii, and should just stick to the bigger consoles.
Maybe it was a bad move for a gaming only console, but they did it well, and it was very popular. Very good piece.

i like the simplicity. my genisis didnt have half the crap a 360 has but it was awsome. as for the motion controls i honestly have no problem with it at all. as a gamer i pride myself on the ability to adapt at games and do well with them. thats just me. there are plenty of games that have poor motion controle execution but there are also many that do. as for graphics i personally care as much for that, so long as the play is well executed.
I don't play my Wii much, but when I do it's always a fun time. I normally just pick up the first-party games, though.
The thing with the Wii naysayers is they are gamers that are used to being the industries sole customers and when all these games (or software if you like) that don't and aren't meant to appeal to them they don't know what to do, it's like they expect to go into a shop and see shelves stacked with games solely for them. Life doesn't work like that.
But I love the Wii, too. I don't use it for online gaming, it uses an idiotic system and the lack of HD does harm it, I wouldn't mind if it still had similar power but a bit of sharpness would have been nice.
As for "core" games not selling, the fact that gamers even care so much bothers me, you don't see this anywhere else. I don't know a music fan that cares about what's happening in the charts. It's great when a labour of love does well but I wish there wasn't so much dwelling on it, just enjoy the game.

of course it's true that the wii has many fine games. anyone who says otherwise is just being ignorant. the thing i enjoy so much about the wii is the amount of choice i have in gameplay. i can go from playing a game like resort, which is solely about motion, to a game like cave story, which is like taking a step back in time. i'm constantly trying new control methods through the wii. that's something that isn't really talked about by "teh hardcore," and it's one of the biggest selling points of the console. FINALLY, i'm free of the dual stick nightmare that is "next gen" gaming. seriously, the dual stick method of gameplay is the most convoluted control scheme devised and should be outlawed next gen. (before you accuse me of being a newb, just know that i've been gaming since before nintendo ever made a console.) i have yet to see a game on either hd system that comes close to the quality of nintendo's first party titles, so there's that, too.
also, the whole "i haven't turned on my wii in months" statement is completely lame. seriously, the wii is killing the competition this year, so if you aren't playing with your wii (he he, that's still funny), your not playing the best games this year. period.

@Lenigod.
Okay, I hear you. But who are gamers to say what fun is, and how you should have fun within games. Who am I to shove someone off a balance board, stick an arcade stick in their hands and force them to play Garu.
And on your second point, this is a creative industry. Do you honestly believe that the likes of Ken Levine, Tim Shafer, Hideo Kojima or whoever would stop what they are doing and go and make party games? These are passionate people and them an those like them will always make the type of games you, myself and many others on these boards want to play.
Things aren't that bad, dude.

I'd start out by saying Wii has a hell of a lot more feirce fanboys defending it at any turn than any other consoles. I've fallen prey to them several times myself. So saying the Wii needs defending a a tad "hmmm, one guy totally told me the Wii sucks, now I gotta rant."
As for my part in all this, I made an article a LONG time ago where I got my shit jumped but it's still the main reason why I rarely buy Wii games. I'm of the opinion the average Wii price is far too close to PS360 price tags to be competitive. Let's put it another way with two recent examples. Metroid Fusion vs. Vanquish. Both are similar in theme, one is obviously a metric fuckton more action packed, but one runs $50 and the other runs $60. As much as I love Metroid, my mind tells me I could save that $50, put it on Vanquish instead adding $10, and have a prettier, faster, more explosion heavy scifi character action game.
For me, a $50 Wii game is a VERY hard sell and most of the time, when I do fall for it, it ends up ultimately disappointing.
