I love my wii. Alot. Along with many of you, i grew up playing Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and Metroid. Then why so much hate on Nintendo's little white box? Many say, the whole waggle control system is a novelty, but if that was true, then why have Sony and Microsoft jumped onboard? I think it's fair to say motion control is here to stay. A few people are bothered by it's lack of anything besides a games console. No CDs or DVDs. For the most of us, we do respect Nintendo's decision to make JUST a games console. Many believe its online limitations are a big key factor including friend codes. It's fair to say that online gaming is a big step these days and is a pretty standard inclusion to a games console. I think the majority of us accept the fact that Nintendo are 5 years behind on online gaming, but they have promised to improve it somwetime in the future. Many also say, besides first party titles (i.e. Mario and Zelda), their isn't many good third party titles.
I'm afraid i have to stop you there!!! Yes, i will concur that the Wii does seem to be the dumping ground of atrotious piles of vomit that even your grandmother wouldn't want to play (i really do try to be open minded by the way), underneith all that are some of the best third party games of this generation. To name just a few:
House of the Dead: Overkill
Dead Space: Extraction
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (it's more than a port, it's the definitive version!!!)
No More Heroes 1 and 2
Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros Treasure
Tasunoko vs. Capcom
Little King's Stroy
The Rabbids games (either love them or hate them, i personally love them)
Red Steel 2
I'm sure alot of you probably will point something that i have missed too. So, although the catalogue of third party games isn't as impressive as the 360 and PS3, they are there. What annoys me more than anything is how people slate the lack of core titles on the system that aren't nintendo. They are there, plenty of them, many of them very good too and when i hear a publisher say that the game hasn't sold very well, i just think to myself, all these people that want core titles on the wii, you get what you want and you don't buy it. So, the question remains. Is the wii really a bad console or is it us, the customers, the gamers that make it a bad console by putting publishers/developers off from making mature/violent/core titles if they know they won't sell?
I know the vast majority of the Wii is family based, but a year or so ago, i read a statement in UK magazine Games TM, from someomne who works for Bethesda saying that if they believe they made a game for the Wii and there was only a 5% mature audience, then you have an audience.
So there you go, it's not as if companies don't want to make good, decent, dedicated Wii games, it's lack of support from the audience. So i ask once more, is the Wii really a bad console? read
