Ever play Fable II?
To clarify: its sounds like you're describing Fable II, and I'd be interested in hearing what you think of that ending, considering what you've said here.
Yeah, I don't get why everybody criticizes Fable II because of its ending. Who cares, when the rest of the game was fun?
I though Fable II's ending was pretty interesting in consideration of Woody's Big Phallic Finish concept. How strong you had become was completely divorced from the resolution of that game. Its an interesting move, and kind of cool, imo.
I loved Fable II, I greatly disliked parts of it, but it's ending really struck me as realistic to the story. You were really broken down by the time you left the spire and I can honestly say that I felt helpless without my teammates on that hill top. It makes me wish that more games were balanced in a way that gives me a challenge without feeling like Dr Manhattan attacking a Smurf village.
I need to play Fable II again because all I remember is choosing for my dog to come back to life.
This was a nice blog, I definitely agree with the points you've made.
Nice way to kick it off. You definitely bring up a good point, and while I haven't played Fable II I'm sure there are some other examples of this out there. Arkham Asylum, as everyone is probably sick of hearing me say by now, is not one of these instances.
I've heard it's a blast, but I haven't managed to play it yet. Being a huge batman fan it's nice to hear that a comic-game has done well.
The thought of Dr. Manhattan attacking a Smurf village made me giggle uncontrollably for a couple of minutes.
I meant not one of these good instances, wow I was being really unclear. Shutting up now.

Endings, I believe, are always the tough parts of a videogame to get right.
Totally in agreement. At least put a cutscene at the end. Or, even better (though I've only seen this once), interrupt the boss fight with a cutscene, then kick things up a notch and progress the character to his/her/its level cap. That was an incredible 30 minutes.
