This is really late to the game but seeing some of the comments in the ever expanding velocitymicro contest post made me realize there are people out there still holding fast to the one platform/brand they deem as superior.
I don't think I'll ever get this. When I was a kid getting ready to buy his first system thankfully there was only one real choice in my eyes, the NES. Later on when I was ready to make the jump to the truly, truly, truly outrageous next gen mark of 16bit video entertainment systems I was faced with a decision that in my eyes was pretty basic; Sonic or Mario.
I went with what my best friend at the time didn't have so we'd both be able to play all the games we could get our lawn mowin, pan handlin', crack pushin' hands on and we had loads of fun.
FUN.
I'm not a sony/nintendo/microsoft/sega/etc zealot, I'm a gamer and as a gamer I'm going to play and buy whatever I enjoy. It's a matter of taste. In fact one of the first games that comes to mind when trying to come up with an example is a board game, Cranium.
I am hard pressed to think of a moment where I felt more triumphant than being able to act out carburetor to a group of very mechanicly inept friends.
If you're hoping for some point to this, allow me to summorize by paraphrasing Andrew Zimmerman, one of the most bad assed, chubby tv personalities this side of Jackie Gleason;
If it's fun, play it.
