Oh Nintendo. . . wherefore art thou Nintendo [UPDATE]
Whomikerican | 3:27 PM on 07.04.2008 31 comments

I've had a Wii since launch and I must say its the most boring system of the bunch. . . .

Now it does have one of my favorite games from this generation NO MORE HEROES! The
system itself is just BORING.

I really don't see why more of us Wii owners don't complain to nintendo more often. Since I
own a PS3 and 360 I truly now see how bad the Wii is. It's not because of POWER its just
because of the software backing it.

1. XBL and the PSN I don't have to make a new gamer save for each game it will
automatically grab my name. . .

2. XBL and the PSN both have there online stores built into the system software (The 360
does it way faster and smoother but sony is getting there!). Not the wii you have to load
and there store is way to clunky it needs to be re-done!

3. Two small words FRIEND CODES. Yes this is the stupidest idea since Phil Harrison thinking
he can save ATARI (Yea I said it). It wouldn't be that bad if every developer was aloud to
use the universal system code. . so that it could be more of a PSN XBL experience.

4. I would talk about an in-game XMB for the wii but come on what would you be able to do
in it. . . lol

Nintendo is just loosing me I used to be such a Nintendo Lover but so far the wii is
disappointing to me. . . I know the games will never look as good and thats fine with me
but I wish that I could do more!

P.S.
Almost forgot I'm definently going to dust of the Wii for MADWORLD. I know that nintendo is
making big money thanks to the wii but come on this is just sad!

[UPDATE]
P.S. pt 2
I left another one out. . . no harddrive and no access to the SD card slot which doesn't make much sense considering the wii only as 512 MB. . . and who wants to transfer from there SD card to there wii every single time? They should just open up the SD card port!

Maybe for all wii hardcore owners there will be a Wii Exodus. . . . .

Yeah, I too wished that I had saved my Wii money and got a PStriples instead. Got caught up in the hype I guess. I still have some hope for it, but not much.

Honestly, the Gamecube was much better.

My Wii is my biggest regret of my life. Seriously.

I regretted buying a Wii as much as I did my HD-DVD player. And that's saying something.

I refuse to acknowledge I have a Wii sometimes. And I admit to being/having a lot of stupid things. :(

The N64 is STILL better than the Wii.

"Wii's a party system", I kept telling myself that when I was going to buy one. When I got it through my head that I game by myself most of the time, I saved myself some money. :)

Why don't more Wii owners piss and moan? Not all of us feel the need to. Granted there are things that need to be worked out, but overall I'm happy with the thing. And if even a fraction of the rumors regarding what Nintendo might bring to E3 this year are true, I think we're in for some good times in the future.

@ronburgandy2010:

Then you haven't lived yet, or maybe a very sheltered life, if your biggest regret in life is buying a videogame machine.

And to OP:

1: Does that really matter? That you have to blow two more seconds to save a game?

2: Um... No they don't. Try getting into the store if you aren't signed in. And how much simpler can they make the wiiware store than with big fucking buttons that tell you what you want to see?

3: Friend Codes are stupid. But, you don't need them to play online. You do if you want to buddy up with the same 3 people, but they do have a random play mode, and much like live or psn, you don't need to know them in order to play them.

4: Am I the only one who could give two shits less about an in game Menu? And duuurrrr Wii already has one. I only use my "xmb" to turn my system off, mute someone, or snitch on someone for being a gigantic dick.

Your points have been said time and time again, and they are still as void as the first 200 times I heard them. If you don't like the Wii, sell it to someone who will use it.

p.s. You can play all of you old GC on the wii, so the argument that the GC is better is also pointless and retarded.

Good Day Sir... I SAID GOOD DAY!

Thw Wii is a party system and I party by myself so I can fully enjoy it!

After No More Heroes I have not touched any new Wii games (well House of the Dead). My girl friend wanted it sooooooo bad so we bought it and she hasn't used it in like 4 months.

By no means do I regret purchasing the Wii, but I use it mostly for the virtual console games. As far as selection of games go, I much prefer the GameCube. That, and it came from a time when Nintendo was still willing to match or surpass what the other guys were offering power/graphics wise.

OK, I take back what I said. Other than a hilariously small selection of games, there is only one reason I haven't sold my Wii...

I disagree 100%. I am totally impressed by the Wii's current library. It's probably the best a Nintendo console has had in it's first 18 months of release since the SNES days.

Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Galaxy, No More Heroes, RE: UC, Blast Works, Metal Slug Anthology, Mario Kart Wii, Wario Ware, Geometry Wars Galaxies, both Trauma Centers, Zack and Wiki, Zelda, Okami, RE4:Wii, Lost Winds, Elebits... and that's just off the top of my head.

Sure, if you don't like any of those games, I could see why the console is a let down for you. But if you are like me and you think all those games kick enormous amounts of ass, then it's a different story.

Do you not like those games I listed, or have you just not played them yet?

Keep in mind, this is from a guy who considers the N64 to have the worst game library in the history of home consoles, so if you are an old fan of that system, then that may explain why why I love the Wii and you don't.

Brawl: Eh. It's okay. IMO too many characters are overpowered; maps are boring and the creator is really really bad.
MP3: Didn't like MP1, everyone said 2 was better, so I bought 2. Hated that as well. Not goin for a third one.
Galaxy: Pretty good. Best platformer of 07, but thats not saying much.
No More Heroes: <3
REUC: Meh. On rails is iffish.
MSA: Yay <3
MKWii: Dammit, I can play this on SNES, n64, gamecube, gba, and ds. I dont need another one. bikes or not, NO.
Wario Ware: Minigames = :(
GWG: :]
TC1/TC2: Got boring after a couple missions IMO. I personally prefer the DS ones.
Zack And Wiki: Didn't play.
Zelda: I could rant for ages about this game. It was fun, but wayyy to freakin easy. Zelda games have been WAYYYYYYY to easy since like Majora's Mask; and even thats pushing it. Either give me a normal length zelda thats really hard, or a really long Zelda thats easy.
Okami: Liked it on the ps2. Liked it on the Wii.
RE4Wii: Yay, I guess. controls suck though.
Lost Winds/Elebits: didn't play.

My main problem is, is that the Wii has a library thats mostly reiterations of old series, ports of ps2/gcn games, or mini game collections. I want more new stuff, like Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes... That stuff. Not this crap they're throwing at me now.

Oh, I get it now! Thanks for clearing that up.

You're right on the money with Nintendo not giving a rats ass about pleasing the hardcore gamer with their OS. I mean, why would they? It's a shame, but Nintendo is being rewarded for not caring about stuff like XMB and their online store being a slow load, etc. They are on top in a way they haven't been in a long time, and I've been told by NoA higher ups that that NoJ attributes this in no small part to their "easier and safer" OS and online services.

The Wii is a step up from the Gamecube in terms of taht stuff, but it's still a far cry from what the 360 and PS3 have to offer. Until the people who care about such things outnumber (and outspend) those who don't, this is the way Nintendo is going to go about it.

It's enough to make a grown man frown.

I'm with Jonathan Homes. All those games he mentioned are the reason I've been using my Wii much more than my 360. Also, catching up on a bunch of great GC games, including Skies of Arcadia Legends and Baten Kaitos.

Wow, this is ridiculous.

I love all my systems. And for it's part, the Wii never breaks, never tells me it can't read a disc, never crashes, has a clean interface in terms of selecting what you would like to do and what games you'd like to buy.

It's a decent little system with some truly great games and some great ideas. It could be far better though.

But I'll take what I get. I certainly don't regret buying one. After all, it had Super Mario Galaxy, which is my favorite Mario since SMB 3.

You my friend need to look at the glass as half full. Sure the online isn't great, the graphics are mostly meh, and the menus aren't as slick, but those aren't huge issues with the Wii. It's still got a great lineup of games, access to tons of awesome retro games via VC, and the emerging WiiWare service. Things are still looking up for the Wii and I have a feeling it still has a ways before it peaks. Maybe that's just me though...

I don't regret owning a Wii because of the console software.

There are things wrong with it, but, I don't sit here fuming about how I can't order a pizza while in game while setting up a voice chat with a friend to complain about how I can't order a pizza in-game.

While all the connectivity stuff is pretty nifty on the 360, its not the reason I enjoy playing the system often.

For me, it comes back to games. And as Mr. Holmes points out, there's a good number of solid (if short lived experience) titles for the console.

I like my Wii, a lot, why?

Well, most of you complain of no XMB. Why should i need one? really, if i press the "Home button" it shows me anything i need

Storage Capacity? Let me ask you something, if ou are all waiting for nintendo to release a USB hard drive, why don't you just buy a 2 Gig SD card and stick it to the Wii, just like a Memory Card. I don't remember nobody complaining about Memory Cards

The Shop, just like Free Touch said, it can't be more simple. You just get some points, select a game and then 2 buttons that are bigger than the game screenshot itself say "Yes" or "No" even a retarded monkey knows that "Yes" mans that you want the game and "No" means that you don't

Games... meh, i love Wii games, why do you ask if we still play Super Smash Bros Brawl? of course we do, it's a great game. It just does not ripe like an apple, you can still play it if you want. and the list gets more interesting, just as Jonathan said.

Casual stuff, let's admit it, we all love at least one of those, i want My Pokemon Ranch, so what? i Like Pokemon.

That said, i like my Wii, i love Nintendo Franchises and i'm sure Nintendo will keep on surprising us on years to come (if they already released all their most popular IP on Wii, something big is coming)

I see your points but I really like the Wii. I think the inferface is refreshingly straight forward. I never owned another Nintendo console, besides the GC, so I enjoy the VC more than most people here would. And I think WiiWare has a lot of potential. Of course I have weird taste. I dislike FPS games and my favorite genres are 3d platformers and adventure games. :p

I have no issues with mine, other than the fact that I've filled up my system memory with VC & WiiWare titles... Different consoles do different things.
