Not My Turning Point Gaming Rig
Wedge | 4:49 PM on 01.27.2009 37 comments

Thankfully. I feel bad for the guy that got stuck with that POS, it's like, totally out of date now. And who want's that crappy game plastered on the side of their rig? My computer is way better, and won't be out of date for AT LEAST another week or two. My CYBERPOWERINTELEXTREMECRAPPYFLASHGAMECONTESTTHING RIG is so powerful I don't even have to play games on it to pwn noobs.

(sorry for jacking the title from coon)

No seriously though, I finally got that nice fancy new computer I won thanks to all those nice CyberIntelRobot people this past weekend. It wasn't totally smooth sailing out of the box. I had to mess with the BIOS a bit to even get a chance to install an OS. And once I got that far Vista wouldn't accept the harddrives as valid for an install. Eventually I figured out Vista/Windows7 hate the RAID setup the thing came with, so once I disconnected those drives, I was able to get something on it. Of course then I'd found out that one of the side panels didn't like to stay on, and the only thing I've found that works so far is hitting it very hard. In multiple places. Repeatedly.

But at last I've got the thing more or less up and running and all my things transferred from my old computer over. And it's working pretty well. I don't have nor care about Crysis, so don't ask me how it runs that. I did find that copy of Lost Planet I got for $3 and loaded into Steam that never worked... NOW WORKS. Amazingly well at that. Shut up, I like that game. Even if the PC port attempts to tell me how to do things by displaying a large 360 controller in my face.

Anyways though, I swear I meant this to be that thing where I show my gaming setup and all that, now that I can consider it "complete". So enough with words, time for pictures!

This is my couch. Not much gaming happens on it, as the only thing that reaches there are the crappy wireless mouse and keyboard. It's good for eating at while watching videos on the computer though.

We just got this 42" 1080p monster recently, and it's primarily used as the monitor for my boyfriend's computer. There's also an OG modded XBox hiding in the media center thing there. I can hook up my computer from time to time as well, when I feel like playing games on a giant screen.

Though really half the time I'm just checking forums and IRC... on a giant screen ;P

This is my "old" computer, which is now my boyfriend's, as it's a little better than his old one. It's not by any means a bad rig, though it's a bit messy on the inside. Also it has wonderfully tacky 3 colour LED lights on the fans, so you know it means business.

As for my new machine... well it is large. Monolithic even. Also I need to reinstall The Witcher and hope it doesn't screw up this time.

Really though, it's seriously huge. Measures 2'x2' and weighs AT LEAST 40 lbs. The handles are not there for show. Here are a couple shots of it next to my boyfriend's old computer (wanna buy it and live near Portland btw? ;P)

Sexy x-rated shots of it unclothed =O

This is my G5 mouse I got for Christmas. After using it at PAX, I was in love <3.

These are my shelves. They carry a large assortment of PC games covering all kinds of crap from the last 15-20 years or so. Like there's seriously at least 100 games there. We buy way too much crap from thrift stores and Craiglist and stuff. Also there's some books or something. I dunno, they're not mine. And Race for the Galaxy. Someone come play with us sometime <3.

This is the box(es) the computer came in. I have confirmed it is in fact large enough for me to Solid Snake about in.

This is a DS hooked up to our crappy old 5.1 system that was supplanted by the shiny new one that came with the computer. It won't stay like this, but I thought it was amusing to do while I figure out what to do with the old speakers. Also it's worth it for Soma Bringer. If you have an alternative DS gaming device, I highly suggest you get the English patch and play it.

This is the tech tree from Alpha Centauri.

Moving into my bedroom, we see what my computer spends the rest of it's time hooked up to. An incredibly sleek and sexy $12 CRT beast from Goodwill. Still has the sticker on it. Also free manga from DMV on the table <3.

This is my trusty old CRT TV I bought when I was 15. It has tons of inputs and is great for older consoles. I have a modded, half-falling apart PS2 on the top, as well as an NES.
ALSO, TEDDY.

The rest of my consoles lie below. Every single machine is actually powered and hooked up to the TV simultaneously. And if I turned them all, it still probably wouldn't use as much power as that new computer. The SNES is my oldest legitimate console, which I've owned since 1992, and it still works great (I sold my original NES when I was a kid).

This is the plastic bin thing that holds most of the controllers for the consoles. I have a few interesting ones, like a one handed SNES controller made for RPGs that I bought off EBay when Nilcam posted about it but was worried about it being a Hong Kong seller.

This is my set of XBox games, which are actually out in the living room, but fit better in here. It's notable because I got almost all of these games in the last year or so and paid virtually nothing, getting most of them off Goozex.

The rest of my games rest precariously upon a cheap mesh construct-a-shelf. On the bottom are my Gamecube, NES, and SNES games. Most of the NES games are blocked off because... well I don't like most NES games and rarely play them anymore =O. The black binder is also filled with assorted PS1, PS2 and PC games that don't have cases, as well as some more dubious "editions" of PS2 games I've burned.

The mid-shelf contains a random assortment of some of my PS2 games (GOD HAND FTMFW), as well as my N64 games, which sadly don't display very well. I have a soft spot in my heart for that system though, and personally find many of it's games still quite playable these days.

The upper shelf has the rest of my sizable catalogue of PS2 games as well as all my double disc container PS1 games. A lot of stuff up here is RPGs and the lot. Also the bag has my old phat DS and all my legitimate DS and GBA games. None of it has seen much use in quite some time ;O.

Crowning it all is my assortment of "collectibles" as it were... and some weird spindly thing I got at Value Village holding my single disc case PS1 games. I'm a huge fan of vidja game music, and I own all the OneUp Studios albums, as well as a few others (waiting on that Bacon EP to get here..). Also have a full shiny boxed copy of Seiken Densetsu 3 and the Japanese player's guide for it. Just because I wanted to have one shiny rare fancy game thing.

And that just about does it. I think there's a Saturn in the closet somewhere too. But nobody likes the Saturn. Except Dale.
