RAGE
Gentlemen, may I present to you a new look to Rage, now.. I know some of you may go 'meh' at first, but carefully examine these scenes.. look at the surface reflection & lighting, and the lighting of objects in the distance including terrain. Now come to the realization that this is all in direct x 9. Now come to another realization that this is scalable and capable of running on 3 year old hardware like the 360, and machines with GPU's of 6800's or higher.
Remember my children.. this is a world of coop, above you will see the scale of the world you are viewing.. you will see a little dune buggy.. and then massive beautiful structures. Coop gentlemen.. id Software.. post apocalyptic.. this engine. Now remember that Zenimax & id Software have a partnership. Remember the statements of them saying how they will be able to share resources. Now.. close your eyes.. and imagine a world of fallout... or elderscrolls... on this technology. Now eat some pie.
I am really looking forward to this game, I just hope the sense of immersion will be good enough as Oblivion's and the action will be good so I can keep playing.
That link is great, even if I don't understand half of it :D
Page 24 is interesting for the low-fps thing on the PS3 though:
OS thread factoring
–Good for small # of cores
–Not terribly invasive
–Complexity grows nonlinearly
–Load balancing tricky
–Not a good match for cell SPUs
•Small stand-alone job decomposition
–Quite invasive rewrite
–Very scalable
–Almost required by cell SPUs
–Good for heterogeneous processors
The graphics are gorgeous... but they also need to ensure that the gameplay is equally riveting. When given a choice, I'll choose pretty gameplay over pretty graphics most any day.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I sure am rootin for em.
