Last night Valve Software released their steam community beta which is a project to bring together the steam community and make it a more interactive environment outside of the games. In the light of its creation a few of us decided to create a Destructoid Group within the steam community. So here we are spreading the word, trying to get all of you dtoiders with steam accounts on the list!

FEATURES IN STEAM COMMUNITY BETA
*User SteamID Pages
-User Unique Avatar
-Shows the groups you are in
-Shows your friends
-Shows your game stats (currently it is just showing how long you play each game)
*In-Game and Out Voice communication & Chat Rooms
*Schedule Events with friends (example: Friday Night Frag Fest)
*Create / Join Groups (such as destructoid group)
*Promote players within a group as "player of the week / month"
*Add ANY game you have installed to the steam list.
-This allows you to take advantage of the steam overlay feature, which at any point in ANY game that you are playing, you can bring up this feature and access your steam friends list / group chat rooms etc.


The features are really cool, if you own any steam games and have an account id sign up now! Even if you dont have any steam games, you can create a steam account and add the games you have installed on your pc and take advantage of the features :D. I'm having a blast being able to play quake wars and use my steam friends list integrated with it.

HOW TO GET STARTED
For those who want to do this, if you launch steam and you have not gotten an update (steam client update) do this. Launch steam, go to file -> settings -> under application tab you will click on the change button under the beta events section and set it to steam community beta. Then restart steam, and you should be good to go!

Then! Just post your steamID profile page on here, and I or Yashoki will send an invite for you to join the group!
