Contest: Juggernaut Codes Xbox360/PS3
Volomon | 8:13 PM on 09.19.2009 15 comments

Ok here's the deal, I ended up not getting my code till 48 hours after I already had the game. So I called told them the situation and waited. Well I got an Xbox360 code with the instructions to email contests@gamestop.com with the subject line JUGGERNAUT, which you can try if you want a free PS3. Not sure if they have any left though. However I did that and apparently got one for that and one for calling because now I have two PS3 codes.

He's got his own spark, he's got a nice charge that plows down foes left and right. Not the best single target character however. All four of his powers are meant for groups of enemies. Personally I think it's a flaw with the power system and a balancing issue. Because towards the end a melee attack by Deadpool does more damage than his own powers or that of most of the other characters I have except Songbird and Jean Grey. Anyway though he's got his uniqueness and he's fun to mess with.

So simply all you have to do is guess the first character of the code. You only get one guess, and I'll give you a couple of clues it's an alphabet character and it's the latter half of the alphabet. Let me know which code you need PS3 or Xbox360 you can not go for both. If no one gets it tonight I'll repost it tomorrow around noon eastern with more clues.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Needs a Polish
Volomon | 6:16 PM on 09.15.2009 9 comments

First off you want to know why and how I even know right? First off in my game Wolverine can fly. Well not fly persay but he can jump up in the air and not come down. Not once but all the time. I imagine I can easily beat the game this way, by floating in the air and regenerating. Only problem is the only way he will come down is if the CPU teleports him (when your lead gets to far away from your secondary characters).

This isn't the only issue either. Online seems to suffer from significant lack of polish as well. For instance people seem to drop randomly, the connection is very poor, I have 10megs down and 1.5up. Yet it lags unbelievably for what is a 4 person game. It shouldn't even studder at this amount of people. The gamma is bizarre as well, if you have the game go ahead and check it out. It's like they didn't even look at it. It tells you to lower the gamma until the first two boxes are black. Well if you attempt to play the game with this suggested gamma level prepare to run into walls, because the first couple of levels are underground or at night. Apparently there's some serious lack of light sources probably to save the graphical engine from dieing.

I don't know what the deal is Activision is a large company and these kinds of mistakes are typical of a large company due to forced production and time tables. However I couldn't imagine that they could screw up MUA2. The game is still fun, however I've only been playing roughly 1.5 hours and I'm running into so many issues though. Some are game breakers as far as multiplayer, the one bug I've ran into there prevents you from pressing any buttons. PS3 version only allows you to access the PSN menu (friends list). For whatever reason sometimes when you go to the menu someone on the teams will be unable to use their controller in this fashion. Of course they end up having to end the game. When it's the host it's even worse.

The graphics btw don't look anything like what is in any commercial or presentation for this game. I actually think it's worse than the orginal MUA. I'm guessing most demonstrations were the PC version. Alot of art is photoshoped as well for the box art.

I write this just to warn you if these kinds of things peeve you don't get the game until a patch comes out. Because right now I'm running into bugs and oversights left and right. I'll write something more detailed down the line but right now just be warned.

Free V.I.P codes for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Volomon | 2:57 PM on 09.08.2009 2 comments

So apparently you get a massive ton of codes for your friends to get into the VIP section of http://marvelultimatealliance.marvel.com. What exactly does this do? Still figuring it out myself but "exclusive" screenshots, videos, and other assortment of things in there. Really though the two which give you any real world benefit are the codes: MUA220 (20% off of marvel digital comics) and BGMUA220 (20% off of the strat guide).

Codes are all first come first served.

PS3M Scans for MW2
Volomon | 8:11 PM on 08.29.2009 4 comments

Ok, first off how legit is it to scan a mag and host the images for people to see? I thought about it for a sec and then was like well it's a EU mag what are the chances I'm going to go by the store and pick this up?

Rest of the Scans

I'm wondering what they mean by Vehicles being introduced to the Modern Era weren't there some vehicles in the first Modern Warfare, I know I remember a tank or thought I did.

Battle of the Fanboys
Volomon | 6:56 PM on 08.20.2009 5 comments

You ever just randomly wonder who's more fanatical? PS3 fans or Xbox360 fans? Honestly probably not that many of us really care, but I wander upon stupidity constantly from either side and just started wondering. A random comment is, "You PS3 fanboys say the Xbox360 failure rates are 50% and it's bullshit", on the other side, "YLOD is a serious disaster, something Sony should repair for free".

Honestly both are ignorant comments. Well despite one being true and the other not. The Xbox360 console failure rate has been supposedly cured. Way down from it's original 54.2% or so although this percentage is from a September (magazine so August) survey. So most likely that number was higher. Ok now let's just utterly ignore this figure I mean totally throw it to the wind and pretend it doesn't exist.

Lets move on to the PS3, people constantly are bitching about YLOD. Which supposedly comes from not using enough thermal paste on the CPU. I have a hard time believing it personally. Why? Well PS3 failure rates are 10.6% which is a little high I admit typically I would say keep it under 10% but at least their close. Not to mention that if you did this with a PC CPU you would notice sooner than 1 year, which is when the warranty is up. Most bitching conveniently happens after the warranty is up. I mean you didn't notice artifices on your GPU issuing you vertical lines? Anyway...hell I have an original 60GB, which I still have to this day upgraded to 350GB.

Percentage of console owners who suffered a second hardware failure after the original repair:
Xbox360: 41.2%
PS3: 14.7%

Percentage of respondents whose friends have had console hardware failures:
Xbox360: 69.9%
PS3: 12.4%

So what the hell does any of this have to do with anything right? Well if you haven't entered into nerd rage and flooded me with some half cocked comment then you will find out.

You have to think here, well if you got screwed that many times almost a 1:2 chance to get a dead box, and a 1:2 chance to get another dead box on receiving your fix, why would you go and get another one after the warranty was up?

The amount of people who would buy another Xbox360 despite all these issues is 36.4%, the amount of PS3 people who would buy a second one is 13.4%

So by numbers alone we know who has the biggest fanboys. Honestly, there must be some consumer ethics, which is why I can not purchase an Xbox360 responsibly. Buying multiple consoles despite knowing their failure rate is the ultimate in fanboy. Maybe all those Wii's sold because they needed something to play while their Xbox360 was away.

Now release the nerd rage.
