Playboy 2010, January Game Girls

As we already know from this Dtoid video, sometimes you just have to get nude.

NSFW

However what about nudity for a men's magazine, Playboy for instance? I'm not sure, it seems odd to me that money exchanged hands for virtual nudity. What about Princess Peach's peach? Where is the limit? Do we just sell the bodies of all the girls in games because they have no opinion or ability to reject it? On the other hand do I truly care that there is a little more nudity in the world? I'm not sure, how can we take the video game industry seriously when it keeps taking it's clothes off. That would be like the news lady stripping down as she's talking about the mass murder of the day. It just leaves you confused. How about a male doctor who does surgery in the buff, you would look at him like he's freaking nuts.

I donno what is your opinion on this?

Uh... I don't think this sort of thing should be posted here, nice as it is.

@Anonymouse Which one the video that already comes from Destructoid or the link that is properly named and links to a site outside Destructoid. I didn't realize my link forced someone hand. Enlighten me old wise wizard, to this strange notion of logic.

Since I see no opinion I'm assuming this is a news post and to which I'll say we've already had this news and conversation on the frontpage.

I swear to God though if it gets as stupid as it did back there I will slap someone.

There might have been something on the front page, but I doubt it had the actually 2010 January nude pics up. I was just going to up the nudes, but I thought I'd inject a little intelligence into the reasoning other than just ogling.

Well they had Mr. DToid nipples but the pics were there. Really if anyone wanted to see it you just Google it. Scans are already being flung left and right.

Behold, the power of lamp! Forged in the fiery depths Hades, tempered by those two elves from A Link to the Past, infused with the power of Jenova.

If they wanted realism, she should of at least double tapped.

I don't need to look at the pictures to have an opinion I guess (your link is broken)

I don't personally have a problem with nudity. We're born naked and nudity is a wonderful feeling. I went to University in BC near Wreck Beach... a famous nude beach and you quickly realize that nudity is not necessarily sexual. There are all shapes and ages on the beach and you quickly just become used to it... it's no different than seeing people in their clothes after awhile - some are attractive, others not so much (though NOBODY looks good playing nude volleyball).

If the pictures are tastefully done and portray the body in it's natural state, I don't have much concern... if the pictures are specifically posed to elicit sexual arousal - then it's not nudity, it's porn and falls into a different category. It's the same with games... I have absolutely no problem with nudity in games... even mildly erotic nudity... but hardcore porn meant primarily for sexual arousal and serving no other purpose - no thanks.

It's the same with movies... there are movies... and there is pornography. Rapelay and the such aren't games... they're pornography. The scene shown in Heavy Rain serves a plot purpose and while it's likely included as titillation, it's also not done in a vulgar manner. It's not much different from a movie (and it likely wouldn't be a porn movie or she'd have never hit him over the head!... ummm... yeah, not going to make the obvious remark about which head).

No idea on Playboys pics... but Playboy tends towards the mildly erotic and mostly tasteful nudes (unlike other magazines which lean more towards pornography)... then again, it's been a long time since I've seen a Playboy mag - so maybe it's changed.

Anyway... my opinion is that if Olivia Munn can do Playboy... then why can't some of the women from games. I just hope that devs take responsibility for ensuring that the nudity is tasteful and reflects the personality of the character.

meh... just my opinion anyway... everyone has one.

@Xyzliac This? http://www.destructoid.com/playboy-s-annual-girls-of-videogames-2010-spread-158269.phtml

Call me a completionist then, :) the link, has more I don't think that is the full spread but I could be wrong. Actually they are not as easy to find as you think they are, the word playboy brings up freaking every playboy thing in the world. The word playboy and game brings up the Playboy Mansion: The Game

@Elsa I agree with most of what you said, but Olivia Munn acts like a total slut anyway. Not to mention, not a single shot of Olivia Munn is actually nude all her shots are covered up. Which brings to the point, if you show nudity are you taken less seriously. To continue on your point clearly Olivia Munn thinks so. The notion of nudity is stronger than the actually nudity, Olivia is wise on this.

It's a lot harder to take something seriously when they wantonly show nudity, like I previously mentioned. Granted no game is of a scientific or mental nature in the first place, but when the Game's industry cries take us seriously is represented by:

Maybe it's reflective of the "teen" years of gaming. Eventually though it's going to have to grow out of it. It flaunts sexuality yet gives nothing in the way of actual adult theme or maturity in a majority of it's games.

Only semi-related, but when you mentioned the rhetorical "stripping news lady", I recall hearing that at least one or two weather report segments over in Europe somewhere have already seized onto that gimmick. I certainly don't disagree with the notion that attaching nudity to everything (and, as Else elaborates, always attaching sexuality to nudity) cheapens it, but video games are simply one facet of the culture, and it won't change until general attitudes towards the subject start changing. Like any other entertainment medium, it goes where people are willing to fork out the dollars.

I bit the bait and clicked the link and this isn't the entire spread either.

Also...

It's a lot harder to take something seriously when they wantonly show nudity

This is where the argument borders on stupidity. Who cares? I swore I'd stay away from opinionating on this thread as I feel like it's not much worth ranting about (especially since Elsa said a lot of what I believe albeit a little nicer and less extreme) but I hate when people say random nudity makes something difficult to take seriously. Why? It's just nudity. Did we not get over this at 16? Even for sex appeal is it so difficult to just get around it?

Ugh, maybe I should shut up but I can not believe anyone would take this so seriously. I can't anyone can take a naked person so seriously. If they were fucking maybe I'd be more sympathetic to providing a real discussion.

Here, don't talk to me like that, I didn't realise the video was from Destructoid.

Anyway, I'd have to agree with Elsa and Xzyliac here.
