Earlier today as I browsed Destructoid, I stumbled upon
a post by Mr. Ron Workman that got me a little overly excited. It was about modifying an NES controller to connect to an iPod as a remote. That got me thinking, what if I were to create an NES iPod controller, and then run an NES emulator on an iPod? How cool would that be? The thought of having a portable NES on the go had me all excited. So that brings us to today's Imaginary Innovation: the iNes.
The iNes. Quite possibly the single most awesome idea I've had all day. Just imagine - no matter where you are, you could have an NES with you at all times. No need to lug around a TV and console, and forget carrying around a laptop running an NES emulator. The iNes is so small it fits in your pocket, yet so awesome that your pocket will want to explode with happy juice because it gets to snuggle up with a mini Nintendo all day.
The design of the iNes would be much more efficient than connecting the controller with a cable. Instead, the iPod would dock inside the top of the NES controller, transforming it into the ultimate portable gaming platform. The menu structure would be set up the same as the iPod, only instead of browsing by song/album/etc, you would be able to search by Game Title, Genre, Publisher, Developer, Year Released, and so on. The album art browser would also be replaced with an NES cartridge browser.
And if you are fortunate enough to own the iPod-to-TV cable, BAM! You can play the NES at home without having to blow in any cartridges. But seriously, if you have an NES in an iPod, why would you be playing at home? You could play NES anywhere; while skateboarding, while out on your first date, during a movie, while watching someone else play their iNES...anything's possible!
I am aware that there is an iPod emulator currently in development, so cleverly named the iNes, and I am also aware (thanks to Mr. Workman) that an NES controller attachment is currently possible. Now if someone would hop to it and turn an iPod into an NES, I will award you with 2 Charms Blowpops. I pick the flavor.
[UPDATE]: I guess you could accomplish the same thing with a PSP, but who wants to carry around a PSP. Ew...
Oh, and that ipod gives me wet dreams. good work.
and yeah...PSP.
