Bullet Hell Hunger? Radiant Silvergun Considered for XBLA.
Vitamin Awesome | 7:46 PM on 01.05.2009 16 comments

Nice.

According to an interview With Treasure CEO Masato Maegawa, Microsoft has approached Teasure about porting Radiant Silvergun to the Xbox Live Arcade. Right now their response is "we'll think about it."

I'm sure around here a game like RS needs no introduction, but to those who need one, it's regarded as one of the greatest Shmups of all time, despite the fact that it was never saw a release outside of arcades and Sega Saturns of Japan. Couple this draw to it along with the rarity of the game to begin with, and you're instantly looking at ebay prices that should be reserved for rare consoles (upwards to $500).

Unfortunately, Mawgawa feels the game has "aged in assorted ways, and I'm not sure they're all good," So it's sounding pretty doubtful that a straight port is going to happen. Personally, I wouldn't mind an Enhanced remake so long as they kept the original version. This would easily be a title I would pick up for 800-1600 MS Points, what about you guys?

I played the original on my buddies' arcade cabinet, and it was awesome.

I'd buy it, except Microsoft will probably charge us $500 for it.

Yeah, they could go about this a few different ways, and nearly any would require more than just porting over the original game (which would probably be a pain in and of itself, considering how wonky STV/Saturn stuff is to translate to any other format) - also, it's worth noting that RSG is definitely not a "game for the masses," as playing it properly requires stupid amounts of dedication and practice, to an even greater extent than Ikaruga, so despite the bit of name recognition I'm sure that Treasure is wondering how big of a potential audience this game really has.

I'm down, I thought this was old news too they've been thinking about it for a while then.

Bulletmagnet- just going to say that. Treasures tentative 'we'll think about it' does not bode well, I have a hunch it'll most likely be a definitive 'no' later on. But, I'm still hoping it'll come, I'll buy it the moment it's released.

After Ikaruga, I'd say its highly likely. Live provides a nice way to get money for classics. I think Treasure will more than likely overhall its graphics, but leave the core gameplay intact.

Remember, they did the same with Sin and Punishment 2 on Wii. Sin and Punishment is a rare hardcore game on N64, but Treasure boldly made that jump to give us a sequel (possibly because of WVC interest in the original). The same could work in RSG's favour.
