About Me
Firstly, the thing you must know about me is that I am Irish. Not that I am celebrating it, anyone who has been to Dublin will know that it is a dark, dirty place attracting only horrible Hen Parties and filthy murderous knackers. I get by, that is, I try to.

Having examined much gaming culture I am fully aware that I am not "Old School". I am the ripe old age of 20. For the first half of my life my Parents viewed Gaming as an abhorrent pastime breeding only murderous sociopaths who played Mortal Kombat one handed to masturbate. I then managed to get a PS1 and Tomb Raider 2 and life was never the same...

I finally managed to break through my cack-handedness and homebrew my PSP (and ruin a perfectly good battery) so.. if any of you need to know stuff you can ask, I suppose.

Currently playing:

Dragon Quest V: HOTHB
Resistance Retribution

PSN: viscg

Add me motherfuckers. I will be going around randomly adding you all soon, so if some strange Irish guy adds you, chances are it's me.

Or Bono.

My love of SSX is at odds with my hatred of EA and their 'totally wicked like Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch' sports games. The games in the series have, for the most part, balanced the obnoxious EA ethos with a game that is incredibly fun and rewarding.

My love for SSX is also at odds with my dislike of real snowsports, although I put this down to having my first skiing experience after I had played an SSX game. The images I had of zipping down a sheer descent and then pulling a combo-breaking Uber Trick were quickly dashed as I stumbled onto the beginner slope, lost control and ploughed into a child. The noise of a wailing child and the snow in my jacket, burning me, dissuaded me from ever attempting to better myself at skiing and convinced me that I should stick to SSX.

A wise choice.

So, as of 2008, what have we on our gaming platter? The last SSX game was, technically, SSX Blur on the Wii but, from what I could tell, it seemed to rehash a lot of the SSX 3 and On Tour tracks runs. The 'innovative' control scheme (a symptom of any game lashed to the Wii with duct tape and staples, reminiscent of early DS Stylus-wankery syndrome) is one I have yet to try but I fear the precision of the analog sticks and shoulder buttons would be lost. Oh, prior to Blur there was On Tour, which was a snowboarding abortion pandering to morons... so let's brush over that one.

And what can we expect in the future? Well, although no announcements have been made, I expect that EA will continue the series on the newer consoles. It seems very likely, as they have done so commercially well. I cannot wait for the newer incarnations. The thought of a snowboarding game powered by delicious new technology is enough to send me into a frothy mouthed state of delirium. Let's just hope that they avoid the use of motion controls. I don't want to lose my love for virtual snowsports because I have just ploughed into a group of virtual child-skiers and it is bringing back a strange burning sensation in my chest...

I want something to happen to snowboarding games, in the same fashion that Skate did for skateboarding games.

agreed with rockvillain. ready for a 'realistic' snowboarding game, or at least one grounded in reality.

I dunno. I agree there should be a beautiful HD snowboarding... thing but I quite like the arcade-yness of it all. It's fun and such.

That said, if it can be reinvented in a Skate-esque way and be just as good as the old ones (not fucking On-fucking-Tour) then I'll be sold.

My, this Destructoid place is nice.

@visc

Definitely, I'm not against arcade-y snowboarding games (and HD would make them even more pinball-y!) but I'd like to see another developer come up with something that captures the actual feeling and character of snowboarding.

For example, not being able to change directions in mid-air would make landing difficult jumps exhilarating (and allows for strategic planning before the lip of the jump), and different locales would bring much more of a punch if they were based on actual areas of the world instead of "the side of an abominable snowman's ice fortress". Basically why try and make snowboarding cool, when the act of snowboarding is cool enough as it is? Use it!

I played blur and thought that the controls were incredibly intuitive. Although having not played any other SSX extensively I can't say how well the transition was made
