Are you sick of me yet? Lol. I have quite a few projects that I created this semester, and I am trying to spread them out slowly in the blogs and forums so you all don’t go in to VirtualGirl overload…
Anyway, I think I should have ended with my For Teh Win game as now I have high expectations set for this one! This project was not as much work as the last few, but still kind of fun. In my game design class we were told to experiment with the graphics, layouts and components of a game and see how it would change the overall gameplay. We were not allowed to change ANY rules, so that limited the scope of what I could change. If the rules refered to a color, that color had to stay the same...
A week before we were assigned the project, I got my 1988 Super Mario Brothers Board game from eBay in the mail. While its 80’s style cartoon graphics rocked the house, I figured it would be fun to play around with the graphics and give it a different twist!
I tried to revert back to the 8-bit artwork of the original game rather than the cartoonstyle that the board game had…and I also wanted each level to represent levels directly from the game.
It might not look like much, but I actually re-created every item pixel by pixel in Adobe Illustrator. I am sure I could have found some high quality gifs or such, but I figured this way I would have more creative control on where to place items on the stage on each level.
Well, let me know what you guys think again!
The original game
I started by making a library of items that I would use in the game…
Then I made each world individually so that they would work cohesively a game. If you have not played the original board game, it is broken up in to 4 levels you travel through in order to finish...
The final project!
Feedback is more than welcome, I have a class next semester that is focused only on fixing past projects...so let me know if you see something that could improve!

I just got donkey kong in the mail, and I am going to try to do something similar to that.
