So, if you've read the sidebar to this blog, you'll know that I live in the Philippines. As might have noticed in the in the previous entries here, there's a decidedly difficult time grabbing games in the Philippines, but I've lucked out as my uncle is visiting the US in two weeks.

He says he'll buy me two games, comping the cost of one game for me.

Now, I know one game I want is Baroque. Assuming I get Super Smash Bros. Brawl here, can you suggest a game I can get?

Notes:

I like RPGs.
My aunt is lending me there copy of Twilight Princess.
I have no way of updating the firmware of my Wii, as I don't have a proper internet connection to download stuff through the Wii, if that makes any difference.

Please add a brief explanation of why you think said game is a good buy. :)

I'll tally down all the answers and make my decision based on good recommendations or a unified response.

i enjoyed super mario galaxy and i don't believe it needed updates. it's fun, simple, and it's a mario game.

also, resident evil 4 from what i hear is an excellent game. i can't give you much info on it as i haven't played it.

Pretty sure Fire Emblem: Path of Radience (or whatever the one for wii is called) is the way to go if you like RPGs, as I think Baroque got delayed. unfortunately, Phantasy Star 2 is pretty much the only rpg-ish game on the VC that I can think of that you're really missing out on.

And as Sadie said, Galaxy and Resident Evil 4 are good games also.

I agree with Sadie G, Super Mario Galaxy is a must-own. Resident Evil 4, however, is my absolute favorite game EVER, and the Wii version is definitely the best out of ever incarnation. Metroid Prime 3 was also extremely well done as well, and if every other FPS for that system was made with that control scheme, I'd be a happy man.

As far as RPGs go, I've heard Fire Emblem is great for long-time fans of the series, so that's something to consider. I'm waiting for Baroque myself, as well. :D

Oh, also, if you like those old point-and-clicks, Zack and Wiki is also awesome from what I hear.

If you want a Wii game then I'd recommend RE4, Zack & Wiki, and No More Heroes. They're all good games, but I'm sure you've found Wii lacks RPGs. But since it is also a Gamecube I'll also recommend Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, and Skies of Arcadia if you just want an RPG. Tales and Skies in particular are great RPGs so you should chem 'em out.

Also that's a good idea, are you considering gamecube games? I hear Oden Sphere is an excellent RPGish game.

I meant to write "check" I dunno if chem is even a word. Also Paper Mario games are kinda good I guess if you like RPGs. Personally not my cup of tea, but a lot of people like that series.

Odin Sphere is only on ps2, but it's a great game. I really wish Atlus would port both Odin and Persona 3 to Wii. Even though I already played them just having the option like Okami would be cool.

When people say stupid shit like buy a 360 I automatically assume the other side of the argument is buy a PS3.

as for wii games, id pretty much 2nd everything people have said here: Brawl, Galaxy, Metroid, RE4, Zak and Wiki, No More Heroes...
I'm holding out that, on the RPG front, Opoona turns out good, but you never know... haven't played the newest Fire Emblem so I can't speak to the quality there.

They only have Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey as the only games I'd want. Remember, I don't have the ability to go online and play halo 3 till I pass out. :)

If you get Brawl it'll update the firmware without the need to be online. I'd say if you remotely like platformers, go with Super Mario Galaxy. Super Paper Mario is a platformer with RPG elements you might also like.

Any game that needs a firmware update will have the update on the disc. Super Mario Galaxy's my most played Wii game. In fact, I might go play it right now.

Tug Your God Out

I'm still playing Excite Truck from day one.

No More Heroes is definitely worth picking up.

And meh -- I really enjoyed Endless Ocean although its definitely not everyone's bag.

theres a series of good rpgs coming fragile and baroque are 2 that come to mind

Well for RPGs Baroque and Opoona are the only ones that come to my mind right now, I heard bad things about DQ:Swords.

Baroque should stay as a MUST considering it's an Atlus game and they usually become somewhat rare after a while (you might also want to give another option in case he doesn't find it). Maybe No More Heroes should go in there also, although you might want to read something about it before deciding.

I want to be excited for Baroque buts its been getting bas (REALLY BAD) reviews from unlikely sources like Nintendo Power (which usually has a pretty easy take on anything for Wii.) They gave it a 3 out of 10.
