yes, because I dont even need a magnifier glass to see the problems in logic in his rant about why he is all in for videogames and the industry of videogames.
this is what i was thinking while listening to the podcastle interview of JT, main focus: kids plays videogames (murder simulators identical to the ones that the military use) = we are creating mass murderers everyday.
And then he goes by citing some scientific article (please, dont even read the titles of the other papers that dont help you make a point), cite so called "experts", and the military trainning (if the military is using GTAIV or DOOM to train soldiers then I believe that the war in Iraq is allready lost), he compares the software of the military to videogames.... Everything very scientific of course, undeniable logic and experts running MRI scans on child brains and re discovering the existance of neuronal pathways so clear that him, a lawyer, managed to made a link between violence and videogames as clear as smoking and lung cancer without even needing to prove anything.
Wow, Jack, they should give you a nobel price.
The best thing Jim Sterling did was let him talk, because anyone that understands what he was saying have two choices: 1-laugh 2-cry. Really, I chose 1 because I can only blog about how stupid the whole thing is. (Yes JT, your comments on synaptic plasticity were stupid for any pre-med student you lawyer, go see a doctor and lets trace your dendrites and try to figure out why you have such a small pre frontal cortex).
And of course the classic "JIM! Let me talk please... JIM! Are we having some communication problem?" that now is on my phone as a ring tone.
Does someone told him that he was beign inteviewed? That in any normal conversation he should talk and listen? Are you allways such an asshole? because if he is that stupid then I can understand why they took your license to practice, or thinking about doing so, really, I havent checked on wikipedia.
But I can check the following: above the normal stupidity, check; lack of arguments, check; rudeness, check... yes ladies and gentleman, we are in front of a fanatic.
Ok, so Im wrong. He is all in for videogames but dont want kids playing them and Iam an idiot. Fair. But still he is in the wrong profession, again, you shouldnt be making lawsuits for murderers or against murderers for the family, you should be teaching parents and educating. Of course, you wont get any media coverage for doing it, right? You will gain some understanding about the pro´s of videogames, for example software to train doctors for surgery (not real videogames, the military does not use videogames that buy on gamestop to train soldiers), spacial skills, the "Wii fit" that he didnt even know about and called "wii fix", like if we are some sort of addicts and we need to get a "fix" every couple or hours... So much for someone who have listened to all the experts in videogames and is updated on the industry... ignorance, check.
This is life people, idiots and the idiots we have to live with. I think is not allways this hard to negotiate and communicate, but it can get to the point of beign so annoying that you just want to lock yourself in the basement and play videogames, we all have been there, havent we?
I just hope Jim Sterling hasnt done that, because he did a great job in trying to communicate with someone and to make ends meet, he tried at least and had a lot of patience. Of course, at the end of the day is just a battle of words. Videogames make people kill other people right? Not the real guns, those are toys... videogames, those are the real weapons... for some.
If you havent you can listen to the interview
here.
Now when Jim finally did get him to talk about the so called links between murders and videogames thompson started bragging that he had talked with more killers. Now I'm sorry but the statement "why would he lie?" doesn't apply to manson or any other murdered.
Hell i think everyone on here could right a 5000 word rant on this so I'll stop now.
Still I think Jim did a lot better job than most would of
it's nothing new, he doesn't listen to anyone but himself, not surprising for a lawyer.
I still feel disappointed in myself for my debate with Thompson, but I honestly don't know if I could have done it any other way. The way he left when I decided to take charge highlights his intolerance for anyone else having the stage. I got an unprecedented fifty minutes with him, and it would have been five if I'd have shouted him down.
