About Me
Iam a gammer from the harsh uruguayan jungle (we dont even have a jungle down here, too cold, go and do some wikipedia of Uruguay). I used to do a podcast in spanish about videogames at Radio LevelUp but I dont do it anymore... anyway those guys are there still making it so you can give it a try if you understand spanish
And i can say "aca aca aca" and i know how to pronoaunce it well since im a spanish speaker, so Im a superior race.
A couple of idiots may find funny that I dont have good english grammar, but again, they are probably idiots since they only speak/write one language...

Most of my time in the internet is because of games. I love videogames so much that i sleep with my girlfriend and my ds, at the same time... i call that a "threesome" and my humor doesnt get anything better than that.
Mostly im a PC gamer, i was going to buy a 360 but faulty crappy hardware told me not to since if it goes RRoD here I would have lost my money, and as a man Im entitled to the sweat of my brow. I want to fuck the Wii and I believe the PS3 is going to be the first console in space.

In the "real" life (come on, internet now is part of our lives anyway...), I study medicine (takes a lot of time and I cant spend enough of my time playing videogames). Is not what you would call a marriage made in heaven, if I wanted to game more I should have sutdy something related to pcs, but I grown surrounded by computers and stuff so I chose the bio stuff instead. Anyway, little time to play video games if you dont want my biographical shit.

And the main reasson I play games for the story behind them. I love well written stories like Half Life series, of course Portal (kind of a Valve fan). Other great games include World Of Warcraft (not currently playing, actually I was never hardcore, but I enjoyed the experience a lot), and of course the classics like System Shock 2. Other great titles had stuck with me over the years, classics adventure games like Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and Grim Fandango.

So, best game experiences:
Half Life 2 (and the original Half Life of course).
System Shock 2
Grim Fandango
Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis
Monkey Island

I'am a pirate...
Velt | 9:52 PM on 02.10.2008 21 comments

I have to admit that I'am a pirate, I'm not thrilled by the idea of beign a danger to the gaming market. I know how much damage my actions do in the industry. So please, don't come here to post how much you hate me.
I will explain why I'am a pirate, why do I had to bought a M3 DS simply to crack my Nintendo DS, they are two main points and for you to read them it will take a couple of seconds:

1) I live in a south american country.
2) I'm not bloody rich.

Truth to be told, the gaming industry is not playing fair with Latin America anyway... True: is a niche market, very smal profits. But you can't, just can't try to sell me a bloody DS for 400 american dollars... or a Nintendo Wii for 600... or the most shitty 360 for 800... or a PS3 for 1200. Those are the prices in a GameStop in a very well known Mall Center here in Montevideo, Uruguay.
So I bought my Nintendo DS in The United States for the fair price of 140 dollars. I also bought three games at the time. But then I had to return home, and when I went to this GameStop shop here to buy Tetris for the DS and they wanted to charge me 80 dollars.
That's when I decided to import a M3 DS Simply and pirate DS games.
You will understand, that shop is for parents with money, not for real gamers that know how much a piece of hardware/software is worth back in the real world.

At the end of the day I dont think Im doing such a big hole in this guys pockets. I buy all the games that I can for the PC via digital distribution (STEAM), and usually I wait a little while for the price to drop since I can't overlook the point that I earn money in something less worthy than dollars (that's still possible).
And still I can't believe I'm the bad guy of the movie. If they care just a little they would sell me stuff at the normal price tag. They just dont care, and I regret that they don't since that would be good for the industry and for me.

I know europeans are going to understand: they get charged 60 euros for a Xbox360 game while americans pay 60 dollars.

My piracy rate is dropping more and more since i got a new decent job.
But i still do it, and consider doing it.
Hurts me to pay 50% or more over the price of things just because a fucker decided to buy a bunch of games, put them on a bag and bring them from their weekly Miami trip, to sell them in their store.
They are not paying extra taxes, and i understand that profit is what makes a store continue, but it makes me wanna cry.
Economy in my country is shit and loving video games in a place like this is shittier.

Still looking a way to bring myself a BS3.

I pirate games sometimes, mostly cause I'm too poor to actually buy them. Being a student sucks =(

Wow Murder64, way to single yourself out as a douche-bag.
By the way, I'm going through University right now, to get into making games, just so y'know who you'll be taking from in the future.
I mean I get that due to his localization Velt's getting fucked over, and I applaud his use of stream. But if you're gonna play something for more than a couple of hours, buy the game a'ight?

@Pizzaface:
you were looking for these "`" right? In my spanish keyboard is in an odd place and I need to use an alt key.
And I probably speak more languages than you anyway so I"'"m not offended.

@Angusm:
Sometimes you pirate something and use it like a demo, I can get that point if there is no demo available. I respect someone who tries the pirate stuff and if they like the game they go and buy it.
If the game is available on STEAM and I want it I will buy it over the STEAM service. is the only way I can get the same price. Maybe with STEAM more money goes to the developer and not so much to the publisher.

Oh yeah, I undertand your situation. You're getting fucked, that's fair, and you buy stuff when you can get a fair price, I respect that.
My comment was directed more towards Murder64.

i lived in saudi arabia and had the exact same thing. overpriced imported games were bad enough, but we got PAL releases (If you know why Jim Sterling is the angry man that he is you understand how PAL gamers get games LATE). Thank goodness for the pirates who let me play FFX International on my pre-modded PS2 at purchase. I'm a ninja so I killed them right after the transaction.

This is one of the few situations in which I actually approve of piracy. I'm not going to fault the demo argument either.

No one on the internet is innocent.

Hell, think of it this way, If there wasn't people sill dumping old SNES cartradiges and stuff like that, then later on down the road these games would be erased off the face of the earth. SO in a way, piracy preserves history.

I'm to lazy to pirate games. Music...that's another story.

Although I am looking into buying a R4 but I don't know if I'd actually use it.

The ESA isn't going to accept that except, mister. >:\
But fuck them, it's a perfectly acceptable response to price gouged local imports in a country the ESA might as well not know exist anyway.
Considering you buy what you can, especially over Steam, I'd say you're doing plenty.
