About Me
Hey I live in Illinois and I go to school still. My hobbies are reading, video games, watching anime, and messing around with computers. I spend a shit load of time reading about games and their reviews, probably even more than i play them. I am turning 17 in June which means I have not played any of the classic games don't know what people are talking about when they mention Kid Icarus and Chrono Trigger. My budget on games was very low before but now that I have a job I am playing all the games i can and i love reading about blogs not for the news really just to see what is going on and what people have to say about such things. I own a computer that can run crisis without looking like shit at least for me lol and i own a ps3 i am soon going to be adding a psp to my arsenal but kind of wish i would get an xbox 360 but i can't justify it knowing that there aren't many exclusives that i want to play and it's failure rate is so high.So that's pretty much me any other questions and you can go ahead and hit me up with a comment.

Thanks for reading!!

Why I am NOT buying GTA 4
VegginCruz | 2:29 AM on 04.26.2008 28 comments

Why am I not buying GTA4? The reason I will not be buying GTA4 is plain and simple. It doesn't appeal to me. I know that it's probably going to be one of the biggest games of the year and yes I probably one in a million who will not be playing this game even though I can and have the money to do so. It doesn't appeal to me. I've read and heard a lot of anticipation for this game and i just can't get enthused about this game. The thought of running over hookers, shooting up cities for points and stars, and just total mayhem does not come across to me as a whole lot of fun. Yes I know there is a story but it doesn't seem compelling enough for me. if I'm wrong then by all means please prove to me that previous GTA games have the backbone of a great story but I'm not so sure that people play GTA for the story which is one of the main reasons i play video games in the first place.

Also just because I don't play this game doesn't make me any less of a gamer. After my encounters with other hyped games (i.e. Assassins Creed, Lair, Gears of War) just because a game deserves a 10 out of 10 doesn't make it a game for everyone. Many gamers thought that Assassins Creed was a great game but for me it was so repetitive I almost tore my eyeballs out, not to mention the story wasn't that great. But this is all my opinion and what's great is that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and taste in games. So to think that just because almost everyone is anticipating this game doesn't mean there aren't people out there who won't be playing this game.

Welcome to Dtoid! The way i see it is that everyone is entitled to play whatever the hell they want. So you not wanting to play it or not being enticed by it seems normal to me. The only thing that i might try to tell someone like yourself (and of course i really dont know this yet) is that this GTA seems to focus more on building relationships with the game's characters instead of just focusing on mayhem (which is still there if you want it). So really, to me, this will seem like a "re-invented" GTA. It could be called something else and you may not notice that its a GTA, but then it wouldn't carry the big "GTA" reputation. Either way, play or don't play... nobody should be very harsh on you for doing what you want.

I'm the same way when people get hyped over JRPGs. They're just not my games, but there are exceptions. GTA may be an exception for you. From the review I just finished reading, there's a lot more to this GTA than vehicular manslaughter and hookers. You may want to check one out.

Shit. Sorry for the double post, but by GTA I meant GTA 4.

Well i created this blog post based on this quote "Is there anyone here not planning on buying GTA IV? If so, please give some compelling reasons why, and provide scans of your medical records, because I don't think you're well" i mean it just seem s like the only ones not buying it are people who can't play it and that's it. Another reason that I'm turned off by this game is all the hype behind it. Halo, Gears of War, and Assassins Creed all sucked big donkey dick in my mind but were still loved by tons of people and I was just wondering if there is actual merit behind all the hype for this game.

To be honest with you, i don't think that Halo or Assassin's Creed lived up to their hype. I agree with you there. The reason i think this game is hyped is because initially R* said from the beginning that they put much more heart into IV. If you have been keeping up on any of the first impressions from the few esteemed members of the gaming press that had to opportunity to play it and interview with the Houers, across the board it has been nothing but praise. Not because of the graphics or the gameplay really, but simply because they felt that this GTA has a deeper level of interaction emotionally instead of just trying to make the map bigger and changing the era. If you haven't read any of the impressions or reviews, you should. Check out the IGN review or read some of the interviews with the housers that are plastered on many sites. I would, at the very least, say you should rent it, or rather, have your older friend or parent rent it (i noticed you are 16).

Well, I'd say that yes, previous GTA games have had great stories, although the best was San Andreas. Vice City had it's own compelling narrative, but San Andreas was just perfect. It's amazing how the story provided plenty of humor, drama, and social commentary all at once. It was great.

Oh, and you can kill hookers.

Welcome to Dtoid, try not to ramble so much in future blogs. Otherwise, hey!

Welcome to Dtoid.

As far as I've read this entry, we don't need to remind you to not suck because you've got some nice thoughts penned out. :)

Just make shorter paragraphs to make it easy to read, and make more entries, and you'll be okay.

I think this time around it is less "mayhem" and more...Ordered chaos, if you will.

It's a lot more mature than the last games (which is nice), and not as randomly chaotic and sophomoric.

You may want to pick it up someday just for the online play, even. You got the entire city to run around with 16 other people...Gotta' be fun. :P

But, games like this just aren't FOR some people. It'll be the biggest game of the year, no doubt...But that doesn't mean everyone is buyin' it!

It's my favorite series, so even if it got a 5/10, I'd at least rent it. The fact that it got a 10/10 just makes me want to buy it even more.

Just the multiplayer alone has me thinking that this isnt the old GTA. That over the shoulder aiming shot from the gameplay vid almost made me pee my pants. If nothing else give it a rental.

Personally I found even GTA III's story quite enjoyable, nothing oscar worthy but much better than most games. If story is your main reason for gaming I would recommend renting GTA IV when it comes out, you should get a good feel for the tone of the game from the first few missions, and based on track record R* should pull off something amazing.
Admittedly the controls are probably not as good as you'll find in other games but GTA does have a feeling that you can do whatever you want.
In San Andreas I would just cruise the streets on a motorbike listening to talk-back radio and that was more fun than most games I've played since.

Opinions, Everyone has one.

Also... Cocks!

....
.... And here I get serious.

Its no surprise some gamers won't play some popular games. I don't know how this post is relevant for anything but to try to get views off of a slightly flame bait title.

IF you play to kill hookers and to get 5 stars only, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!

<INSERT YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG PICTURE HERE>

Messing with the police is fun when you have nothing better to do in the game, and/or have some frustration to vent.

As for Assassin's Creed, its actually a mixed bag depending on the reviewer. It scored fairly low by several reviewers. I won't say its a AAA title, but their phenomenal advertising campaign was what made it into one.

Welcome.

Also, you're totally entitled to your own opinion, however, I feel this is the worst GTA for you to miss in regards to that opinion. Everything I've read so far has stressed just how much more enthralling and compelling the storyline is, which is apparently why you play games (same here, mate).

If I were you I wouldn't pass up on such a megaton title. I didn't play BioShock for almost 6 months because it didn't appeal to me when it came out but eventually I did play it and loved every second of it. Same with Mass Effect, which I'm only just playing through now (and trying to beat before Tuesday! Haha).

I agree with Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed being overhyped (although I actually enjoyed Halo 3 more than I thought would and I thought Assassin's Creed was a great game) but sometimes games deserve the hype. GTAIV, from what I have seen, totally deserves it. Don't miss it. Mark my words, you'll regret it later.

Specific into Concept: All games were western-based.

Welcome to Destructoid.

And hey, don't feel as if you're not allowed to have an opinion. If it doesn't appeal to you, don't force it.

BUT, it's also nice to keep an open mind. You could be preventing yourself from playing something you might enjoy.

You could base your opinions of a game on a ten-word plot synopsis or the level of hype surrounding it; the problem is, those things aren't reliable proxies for actual game quality.

Since the game will be so widespread, why don't you borrow it, rent it, or play it somewhere else before you decide either way?
