Assuming all of us here at Dtoid have a bit of the hardcore video game nerd in us, I'm curious as to what everyones game collection is like.
It seems most of the community is in their 20's and they have had plenty of time over the years to build up their gaming collection. I was laying in bed last night, restless, thanks to the excitement I had playing Halo 3 with my friends. My eyes wandered around my room until I came across my massive game collection.
I rarely ever admire it. Only time I acknowledge it is when I'm adding another game to my collection or picking out a new game to occupy my time with. I was going through some of my games last night and I came across a few clasics that brought a smile to my face.
Beyond Good and Evil for example.
What a great game that was never fully appreciated, much like the beloved Psychonauts. Although we'll most likely never see a sequel I am proud to own this game as it is the definition of a true sleeper.
I'm probably alone with this one, but who the hell remembers this kick ass game?
This game always reminds me of Shinobi and Shinobi reminds me of this game. I played this game around the time I played Shinobi, and despite how great Shinobi was at the time ESWAT was immensely better. Again, I know I'm probably alone with this game, but wow. I totally forgot I owned it.
I still own this with the original box and everything, a fact that I am very proud of.
True classic. That is all.
I have a pretty decent sized collection, but nothing compared to what some of you guys here at Dtoid have (unless you trade in your games). I'm curious as to if you take collecting your games as seriously as you do playing them. Or do you finish them, sell them, get new ones, rinse and repeat.
Also, try to list some of the classic games you still own that you hold near and dear to your heart along with pics if possible!
i hear it's good.
also, i have stacks upon stacks of games.
two shelves dedicated to genesis games.
Also, I just picked up the PS2 version of Beyond Good and Evil at Fry's Electronics for 10 bucks. A great deal for me, but an insult to an amazing game
It was hard selling my NES games to a local videorenting place (not blockbuster) at 4 bucks each, how many were there? I'm not sure, i just remember i had a box full of games, and that right after selling all of those we went and bought a SNES with the money.
Now that i think about it, maybe that explains why i never got a lot of SNES and N64 games and pretty much only rented them.
In other words, I don't collect games - I keep what I need and trade to get more games that I'll need to keep. Yeah!
XBOX 360: Halo 3, Gears of War, DDR Universe(wife), Rumble Roses(Wife), Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, and BioShock, which i never play.
PS3: WarHawk, Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Fall of Man
Wii: WarioWare, Sonic, Zelda, Trauma Center. I think that's all for Wii, though I feel like I've forgotten something here. Oh yea, DDR Hottest Party and Cooking Mama(Both Wife)
PS2: Both God of Wars, Final Fantasy X and X-2, FFXII, Both Kingdom Hearts,(Second one sucked balls), some DDR game(wife), and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.
Psone: Only have Final Fantasy 9 and FF Tactics. My cocksucker brother stole the rest, including MGS.
N64: Only Mario Kart and fucking used Zelda 64. Cocksucker stole my Gold copy of zelda.
GameCube: Fire Emblem and Super Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros.
Everything else has been stolen and sold by my druggie brother, and believe me, that's a lot of fucking games dude.
PSP: FF Tactics, Ratchet and Clank, Daxter, and Jeanne D' Arc.
DS: Only New Super Mario Bros. and MArio Kart
I don't own a lot of classic games, because the first console I owned was a N64. So I have Chrono Trigger, because I absolutely had to get it - but not much else when it comes to Super Nintendo games and other games from that gen.
I had a lot of stuff from the GB/GBC days but most of that was traded in when the GBA came out. I used to have a PSP as well, but I sold it and my Xbox 1 to get a Wii. It was a good decision.
I try to fill the gap in my gaming history with Virtual Console and the GBA, although they don't have everything I want yet on the VC so I just twiddle my thumbs...while not playing what I already own as much as possible.
So I've got this big gap where generations 5 & 6 should go, that I'm slowly backfilling.
I have "29" PS3 Games Right Now...
I'll have "43" PS3 Games Total this March '08 w/ PRE-Orders!

Planning on Picking up "Assassins Creed" & "Conan"
If I could I would have a PSP as well. I miss Metal Gear Ac!d 2 and Lumines sometimes and I feel empty for awhile.
Anyway...
The Wii is great for me for several reasons. Virtual Console has given me the opportunity to easily find classic games I might have missed and download them. The system is even fun for my parents to play, which creates a lot of laughs. The GC backwards-compatibility was a big deal because I wanted to play GC games at college in Lincoln, but didn't want to take the Cube away from home and prevent others from playing it. I use the Wii almost every day. Sometimes the Votes Channe gets me to turn it on, other times it is a VC game, Melee gets played a lot along with other GC stuff, and my current game is Zack and Wiki, which is exclusive to Wii.
Does that answer your question?
I'll post some picks if you want!
Yeah, I would really like to have a 360 as well. I got into XBL (and the system itself) way late with the original Xbox, and I had hope that I would have a 360 before Halo 3.
That didn't happen.
I might get one in 2008 sometime, because there will be some great discount deals no matter where you look. I am currently trying to win a 360 and trying to ignore Mass Effect, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed. Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4.
Oh, and when it comes to VC I say buy stuff you didn't have access to or didn't play before. I don't really know what to reccommned, but ActRaiser, Bonk, F-Zero X (only if you don't own GX),and Sin and Punishment are awesome.
You will notice that I own Super Mario World and A Link to The Past twice. I really like playing them on the TV for some reason.
I expect you have heard of them already, but v-c reviews provides reviews for all available VC games. They also include some gameplay footage if you are still unsure after reading the review.
1UP and IGN tend to offer the same features, if you want to get diversified information.
I recently found a place which sells really cheap old games and bought a super famicon and am slowly building up my old collection (Super metroid, the mario games, etc.), as well as trying to buy games which never came to America back in the day (like Treasure Hunter G, which is half awesome and half sucky. I still don't know what the G stands for. It is not "Gangsta").
My next goal is to buy many of the games that I really loved for the original playstation, like Einhander and Klonoa.
SNES: Ogre Battle, Chrono Trigger, FF3, Super Punch Out(the shit!), Knights of the Round, King of Dragons(can still play this game nonstop..it never gets boring), dozen or so others.
64: Kart, Smash Bros., Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Ogre Battle, bunch more.
PS1-2: Wish i still had Valkyrie Profile and Vandal Hearts for the PS's. Most FF games. Didnt buy much.
360: Halo3, Orange Box, R6. Sold Bioshock for 45$ after i beat it. Assassins Creed in 18 days! woot.
Some assorted handheld.
Regardless, I'm impressed that you still own that dude. That's quite the classic.
I'm with you brother. I plan on buying some of the old classics that I regretfully sold. Games like Banjo-Kazooie, Blast Corps, Contra 3: Alien Wars and so on.
You can find a lot of great classics for cheap on ebay these days, which is nice for the collectors.
