I would’ve bought this game, but I really don’t have the money to spare right now. Plus, I still have a huge backlog of games from 2007.

I myself could care less about install times. Now if it were like it was back in the old days where an install could take a good half hour to an hour (or more if you have to change 3.5 floppy discs everytime) I might raise some hell.

We've entered the next generation of consoles with HD built in. And developers want to use them to their advantage to cut down on load time.
And now people bitch because they have to install a portion of the game and it "takes too long".
And I always wonder why people call us a bunch of whiny bitches. :/

Though I don't think the install is a deal breaker. But personally it has been a nice thing about console games that they are not PC games and you don't have to install them. There have been some really nice games on the PS3 already that didn't require a huge install so I'm not sure I want to welcome this trend. Did COD4 require and install and its a damn fine game. Now if a install can make the game significantly better I'm all for it I don't consider a few seconds here and there significant though.
I much prefer how games of the past did this I believe the Xbox versions of Halo did a sort of streaming copy so that it did store part of the game on the hard drive but it wasn't noticeable. I would imagine there are games on the PS3 now that are doing this, do a small preload and download more while its playing off memory.

I have a ton of Pron & music videos ( AVI ).
I have 61 PS3 games... Plus 80+ of UT3 mods. AddOn Content ( Warhawk, Motorstorm, & Folklore ) PLUUUUS 6 PSN Store Games.
I have the 60 gb HDD model.... I still have after DMC4, 20 GB left.... I'll need a new PSTriples just to play games soon!

Are your save files seperate from hard drive installs? I have two seperate folders in the games menu. One, I believe, are saved game files, while the other is full of data dumps from various games.
I could be wrong, but that is my assumption.

As is a 60 gig unit could hold 12 5gig game caches and that really isn't too shabby would cover most peoples day to day playing habits. But I don't like the thought of having to wait 20 minutes to just re-live a moment. I just wish the install was optional even if the load time sucked without it. Or that they used so more discrete background loading that lets you get into the game quicker.
I will probably just get a 250 gig drive eventually so I dont have to worry about it. But I do not want to accept this as normal unless there is a noticeable improvement and not just a few seconds of loadtime.

Good point. I wonder if this will be a problem a few years down the road for those who want to replay a game, but first need to install a portion of the game.
Then again, will the majority of PS3 owners have a 200g+ hard drive in their console by then?
(# 31) on 02/06/2008 21:39
You also have to realize that you actually start out with 5 GB less than whatever model you have so 60 GB=55 GB. I'm assuming thats for the PS3 OS.

Thanks for clearing up the missing HDD space issue. After checking my available space last night, I was suprised to see it was only 75g and not 80g total.

Agreed, Josh Homme can do whatever he pleases. I am willing to make an infinite amount of sandwiches for any musician as great as him.
