RPGs require so many discs because of the hours of uncompressed cinematic videos they stick on them.
Im fine with it. Having more discs makes me feel like I got my money's worth.
IDK, they don't have to limit themselves to 4 disks, but then again it starts to get rediculous for the publisher to have to make the packaging cost more. Who knows, after the 4th year of 360 games we may see that everything is being capped or limited by the disks. Hopefully you won't have to put in a multiplayer disk. That'd be the gayness.
What about a dedicated multiplayer disc?
Dear god.
Final Fantasy VII. I'll never forget working my way through those discs.
As for epic RPGs -- I mean, Oblivion was only on 1 DVD. But then again, it has very little CGI. CGI uncompressed is a nightmare of a space-hog. Expect Lost Odyssey to be a rather cinematic-RPG experience.
What toneMan and savant said.
Aside from those games that will have tons of video on the discs, I don't foresee the need this generation for multiple discs for many games.
Shame it wasnt shenmue III but with 10 discs... that would be great
If the developers in japan would start using in-engine cinematics, this would not be much of a problem. the graphics are almost as good a CG animation... close enough, anyway... especially if it means the difference between one disc and four.
