Nintedo's system is doing better then any other system on the market. Casule gamer is the lowest form of gamer you can get, meaning it can't get any worse and your gameing will only get better as you play.
Did anyone START OUT as a casule gamer? Was the NES a HARDCORE game machine? A lot of the people who are today, hardcore gamers, got the NES becuase their familys thought it would be family fun.
Nintendo is not makeing a joke of gameing, they are paveing the way for the next generation of hardcore gamers, by makeing the over protective, micro-managing mothers out there thing "Well this looks like family fun."
exactly, instead of our generation reminiscing about track n field the nex generation of hardcore gamers will be saying "hey remember that dope ass game we used to play, wii sports, oh man thats some memories.
And anyways, the wii is a good console and with the right devs on board it will have some great games. Mysims looks like it could be a good load of fun.
Finally some good advice.
Beat your kids.

I get irritated whenever self-proclaimed "Hardcore" gamers piss and moan about something being too mainstream and selling out in this industry. What, are videogames punk music? Are "real" gamers anti-culture hypocrite snobs now? Get over yourself and be happy that your mommy understands, now, why its so important that she get you your fucking chocolate milk.
Nintendo is doing great! They have a fluffy wallet, so why do they have the piss poorest online ever imagined! I will never de down with what the Wii is. I didn't buy a HDTV to display last gen resolutions. The system is old and will do a piss poor job of A.I. and Psyics compared to the other offerings. I will admit the Wii does a great job at what it does.

I entirely agree with you. I hate it when people get all indignant about whatever scene they are in. So fucking what if someone else plays games and isnt as 'hardcore' as you? shut the fuck up and just play games.
I really embarrased to own the fastest selling console of all time. It really make me feel like I'm on the losing team.
And hurts to see Nintendo abandon it's hardcore fan base. Releasing a new Zelda game, Metroid game, 2D Mario game, 3D Mario game, and a Smash Bros game all for the Wii with in 13 months of each other is really low. What am I supposed to play on the Wii? Awesome games? That sucks![/sarcasm]
@Monkeycat- We're not pissed that video games are becoming mainstream, we're pissed that Nintendo is lowering the quality of games to appeal to a larger audience. To them, it's becoming $ > good games.

REAL hardcore gamers, people whose opinions on the health and future of the industry actually bear weight, will play anything that is good, regardless of hype, maturity of content, or graphics (Hello Geometry Wars, Katamari, and Pokemon!)
Technophiles are obsessed with graphics, physics, and anything else that determines whether a product is on the cutting edge of technology.
The two are usually mutually exclusive. There are exceptions, but if you obsess over graphical horsepower, chances are you won't be playing a classic game any time soon.
The fact that your main concern is graphics reveals you as the shallow, image-obsessed, poser that you are. You are a casual gamer, that ad is for you. Enjoy yourself at Wii Wiik.
I wonder, though, what you think Microsoft is doing if you think Nintendo is ripping people off :p Ever hear of a little thing called Windows? Ever heard about those who have had to replace 5-6 Xbox consoles? Hell, have had to replace even 1 or 2?
Other than that, have you noticed, perhaps, that raw horsepower has very little to do with how good the games on a system are? Or even how they look, seeing as how a Gamecube game had the best graphics last gen. Developers have more influence over graphics these days than the hardware.
Also, ever hear about how the weakest console won the console war last gen, completely due to its stellar library? What? GAMES are the important factor, not nitpicky resolutions? Oh my god, who knew? Suck it up, grow a pair, and learn to enjoy whats good, or stop acting like you know something.

I have a feeling that Nintendo had nothing to do with the event taking place in that ad. It looks like a retail ad, and they're trying to sell lots of Wiis (how do you pluralize Wii; Wiien, Wiii [pronounced Wii-eye], just Wii?)at their store.
hate to say it, but Metroid 3: Corruption out sold Bioshock the first WEEK it was released. tell me that doesn't mean that the Wii doesn't have a following of hardcore AND casual gamers.

Yes, it really sucks that video games are becoming a more mainstream form of entertainment across all demographics. I can see how this will be awful for the consumer--more choices, more competition, lower prices. We're so screwed.
To me, a big shmup fan (but not hardcore as some), Wii is looking mighty fine. In Japan, it seems that it's revitalizing the shump genre. Hopefully, these games will come stateside.
I think it's pretty crazy that people want to constantly bash these companies like they were like some underground band that got famous, and now because they are famous they must suck or "they've changed their sound". Nintendo targeting families is not James Blunt. What is the point in running a company? To make money, if you had your own company, would you only want to target these select few people, or would you want to broaden your audience? To say that video games were ever not mainstream is complete and utter bullshit and to want to keep them from people you think don't deserve them is doesn't make any sense. I remember when I got my first nes and there wasn't a kid that you could talk to that didn't know what it was or a PARENT for that matter. If your fucking videogames weren't mainstream, they would never be at the level they are today, and they wouldn't keep pushing themselves to make the halo's and gears of war's and bioshocks and all the other recent games that people love. Products without large followings fail, maybe not soon but they can't just break even, and whining about games being too mainstream is rediculous.
Find something better to do with your time, like gardening.

Meh. I expected since they didn't focus on graphics, that they would have a better Online service. But so I've only heard of one game offering online: Mario Strikers.

i find it quite funny that after MP3 released we still have c-blog posts like this blocking the tubes. With MP3 trouncing BioShock's sales, its just a matter of time before more games geared to the "hardcore" audience come out.

OK using graphics comparisons of last gen is just plain goofy! They were all so very close and saying that the current tech that drives A.I. and Physics has little to do with how good a game can be is False. And I noticed there was no defense for the Nintendo approved CASUAL online experience, I mean who wouldn’t love the channel that contains a single trailer!
And just so you guy’s know Nintendo totally pushes for these ads. Check out the recent EGM podcast that has interviews with the soccer moms that Nintendo has Wii parties for. This is 90% of nintendo’s focus right now.
And to the person who used Prime 3 over Bioshock – well duh people are starving for a more complex game. See many people bought the wii for other reasons than mini games.
Look im just saying that I hope serious developer don’t jump ship and cash in on the casual train. Nintendo had the kiddy console rep on the cube and now I think it’s even worse being targeted towards moms and grandparents. Hehe…Nintendo does things right and other times they just plain screw off like the non-existent joke of an online service they have.
