Did anyone START OUT as a casule gamer? Was the NES a HARDCORE game machine? A lot of the people who are today, hardcore gamers, got the NES becuase their familys thought it would be family fun.
Nintendo is not makeing a joke of gameing, they are paveing the way for the next generation of hardcore gamers, by makeing the over protective, micro-managing mothers out there thing "Well this looks like family fun."
And anyways, the wii is a good console and with the right devs on board it will have some great games. Mysims looks like it could be a good load of fun.

I entirely agree with you. I hate it when people get all indignant about whatever scene they are in. So fucking what if someone else plays games and isnt as 'hardcore' as you? shut the fuck up and just play games.
And hurts to see Nintendo abandon it's hardcore fan base. Releasing a new Zelda game, Metroid game, 2D Mario game, 3D Mario game, and a Smash Bros game all for the Wii with in 13 months of each other is really low. What am I supposed to play on the Wii? Awesome games? That sucks![/sarcasm]
REAL hardcore gamers, people whose opinions on the health and future of the industry actually bear weight, will play anything that is good, regardless of hype, maturity of content, or graphics (Hello Geometry Wars, Katamari, and Pokemon!)
Technophiles are obsessed with graphics, physics, and anything else that determines whether a product is on the cutting edge of technology.
The two are usually mutually exclusive. There are exceptions, but if you obsess over graphical horsepower, chances are you won't be playing a classic game any time soon.
The fact that your main concern is graphics reveals you as the shallow, image-obsessed, poser that you are. You are a casual gamer, that ad is for you. Enjoy yourself at Wii Wiik.
I wonder, though, what you think Microsoft is doing if you think Nintendo is ripping people off :p Ever hear of a little thing called Windows? Ever heard about those who have had to replace 5-6 Xbox consoles? Hell, have had to replace even 1 or 2?
Other than that, have you noticed, perhaps, that raw horsepower has very little to do with how good the games on a system are? Or even how they look, seeing as how a Gamecube game had the best graphics last gen. Developers have more influence over graphics these days than the hardware.
Also, ever hear about how the weakest console won the console war last gen, completely due to its stellar library? What? GAMES are the important factor, not nitpicky resolutions? Oh my god, who knew? Suck it up, grow a pair, and learn to enjoy whats good, or stop acting like you know something.

Yes, it really sucks that video games are becoming a more mainstream form of entertainment across all demographics. I can see how this will be awful for the consumer--more choices, more competition, lower prices. We're so screwed.

Sure it might be bad, but as Neonie said, it's introducing more people into gaming. The more the merrier.
i find it quite funny that after MP3 released we still have c-blog posts like this blocking the tubes. With MP3 trouncing BioShock's sales, its just a matter of time before more games geared to the "hardcore" audience come out.
And your going crazy over some ad some store did? you're kind of overreacting.
And just so you guy’s know Nintendo totally pushes for these ads. Check out the recent EGM podcast that has interviews with the soccer moms that Nintendo has Wii parties for. This is 90% of nintendo’s focus right now.
And to the person who used Prime 3 over Bioshock – well duh people are starving for a more complex game. See many people bought the wii for other reasons than mini games.
Look im just saying that I hope serious developer don’t jump ship and cash in on the casual train. Nintendo had the kiddy console rep on the cube and now I think it’s even worse being targeted towards moms and grandparents. Hehe…Nintendo does things right and other times they just plain screw off like the non-existent joke of an online service they have.
