Wow...so after a lot of reading and a lot of lurking I finally decided to take the plunge and join the neighborhood. We'll see how it goes.
One of the reasons I didn't join originally when the
C-Blogs were getting started was the fact that I already had my own blog as it was. But some of you may know, blogger sucks. And unless your post is about 'how to get more traffic' or porn pics then good luck getting any readers on blogger. Of course, just because there's already a community doesn't mean squat in terms of readers but at least its a start and no worse off than I was where I was at.
Granted I have no idea why anyone would read my stuff. My journalism is shoddy and my work ethic is puke. Hmmm, maybe that's why no one wants to hire me. Note to self -- work on uhm 'that.'
But I guess I do have a spin no one else has here. I own a DS and a PSP like just about everyone else. I have a PS2, an SNES, N64 and a
Turbo Grafx-16 (albeit broken), all of which makes me nothing special. Although I just might be the only one here that doesn't own a friggin 360 or PS3. I do have a Wii but until
Brawl,
No More Heroes and
Endless Ocean in 2008, the thing has collected dust.
Yep. I'm soooo last gen still. Of course that might change real soon as I'm just about out of my debt but of course, something else will come up -- something with the car, a surprise hospital visit, legal fees in an alledged stat. rape case -- women really ought to wear signs around their necks with their ages on them.
But I wouldn't call myself 'not hardcore' or 'uncore.' I started with a 2600 and going on up until now, I've owned just about every console in between. Sadly I've sold just about every system and game I've owned when I went to college. My number one wish is to be able to go back 10 years ago and kick 16-year old me's ass for even thinking about selling the
Saturn. And to tell him to buy a copy of
Panzer Dragoon SaGa or I'll be
back.
Oh how I wish I had you...
What I am is fucking poor to the hardcore.
So I guess I should end with the games I like but that might take forever. I love just about every friggin genre. I grew up on RPGs like
Rogue,
Bard's Tale (not the gay new ones,)
Ultima,
Phantasy Star and two other games some sort of Fantasy and Something Quest -- but I've developed Adult ADD and I can't even count how many RPGs I have lying around the house that I've started and never finished. That and you know -- having a job and paying bills makes playing through Baten Kaitos a secondary priority. I don't really want to be panhandling outside the library and smelling like rat piss and booze. Though I guess it wouldn't be the first time.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater II pretty much got me fired from my job back then.
But yeah, I'm a lot like Chad -- I hate just about nothing. I can find something enjoyable with any game. It's all AMAZING!!! So hopefully I'll fit in here. If I wind up being a douche, I'm sure you'll let me know in your own special ways.
And yeah, I need a real banner.
Welcome home.
Welcome to Destructoid, I love you.
@ Toph
Yeah seems weird. I've pretty much been listening to Retroforce since I think episode 17 and its really taken me this long to finally get on here. I'm a slacker, what can I say.
And btw, fantastic job. I do prep on Tuesdays for the shitty resturant I'm working at. Only reason I don't listen to you guys on Monday is so I have something to curb the boredum of cutting more veggies than the entire country of Peru probably consumes in an entire year.
So yeah, you probably hear it all the time, but you guys make at least one of my days at work somewhat enjoyable...for at least an hour-plus.
Sounds like me, man. Though I don't regret not buying a Saturn at the time. With what little money I had the PlayStation was the right choice for the time. Now I got a cheap Saturn, I've been picking up stuff like Shining Force III. I saw a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for $80 on eBay, prices have come down since everyone who had one started selling it.
@ Koobert
I kind of hated my Saturn at first. I'm a huge Virtua Fighter fan now but I thought the game looked like ass compared to the nice hand drawn sprites. And well I guess we can call my parents dumb as they got Clockwork Knight instead of Daytona USA and Panzer Dragoon. I did wind up getting those two later and have fond memories of them.
I didn't get a Playstation until much later in its span because by then I had a job and was expected to pay for my own shit. And they probably weren't happy I was asking for yet another console so soon after splurging on a Saturn. Probably thought I still should be playing my Genesis and SNES.
And I probably am going to buy a Saturn again soon, and if the PDS prices still are good that's definitely going to be on my list. Hmmm maybe that's why I don't have any money for a 360...spending it all trying to buy back all my old systems. Because getting a new, working Turbo Grafx is also next.
The hardest part of getting a working TG-16 is the AV outs. Almost all of them were co-ax... I'm sure you can find a good third party solution. The Virtual Console emulation of it apparently isn't perfect but it's easier to hook up onto newer tvs.
Welcome!!
women really ought to wear signs around their necks with their ages on them.
Ahahaha. <3
Welcome to your new home, although we are all brothers and sisters... incest happens.
oh hai!
Rape traps: watch out for them.
Also, you have been granted:
It is worth exactly $0 and may actually draw ire from the community.
Enjoy!
P.S. Welcome to the 'toid :D
You lurked for 2 years.
DAMN!
Welcome dude.
@ atheistium
See, that's great. I missed out on all the hawt, dirty sibling sex by being an only child. So I have yet to taste the sweetness that is incest. My one true regret in life might be coming to a close.
@ Koobert
Co-ax isn't a problem around here. Yeah, I still have TVs that I'm hooking shit up to with RF Switches.
@ The GHost
Uhm thanks. I'll cherish it, I think. And rape-traps? What if someone were, you know, looking?
@ Justice
Well reading from about when the site got launch, give or take. And not lurking too much. Just reading the front page stuff and an occasional blog title that catches my eye.
Welcome to your new obsession.
SUP!
Thank you for not being another Thu-
Oh, wait. I forgot he must not be mentioned. But yeah. Great intro post.
Welcome....to Destructoid Park.
