I'm just commenting here because you used the phrase "slaking one's thirst," which I very much appreciate.
I approve of this whole, fucking, blog.
Anything that's WoTS (except 2) wins.
I wish I had a japanese 360 to play this already. I hope it is as good as the first.
I love this series. I didn't even know that a 3 existed. I always labored under the impression that Samurai Western was, spiritually, WoS3.
I want it too.
*Blog Approve*
Tubatic you're probably going to flip out, but I saw Way of the Samurai 1 at Gamestop a few times and ignored it because the boxart reminded me of Kengo (that horrible, horrible samurai game).
I should probably check this out. What action series is it most similar to? Is it like a fleshed out Onimusha 2?
Magnalon, DOOD!
Yeah, Kengo was my first PS2 game. Bushido Blade it most certainly was not, to say the least.
What action series is it most similar to? See that's kinda tricky. Sword fighting is fairly simple. Side/medium and overhead/hard buttons, plus a block and a modifier/kick button. Blocking works on a balancing parry system, depending on if you and/or the opponent is blocking/attacking while pushing toward or away from each other. There's also special moves based on twitch blocking, but, that's pretty much not even required (and I've never mastered it) Its a little bit hack-n-slashy, but with a nice amount of depth if you really want to get into it.
So, action-wise, its a little Onimusha with a serious blocking/counter system.
But then there's different moves for each sword, and random skill ups for learning new moves, and watching sword durability (swords break), not to mention the RPG-ish elements...
I sound like a complete fanboy, but its really unlike anything else.

No, it's understandable that you'd say it's a unique experience. My wife says all my action games are the same, and I ferociously protest.
After looking at a few reviews/impressions, it seems like a must-own. The "create your own story" bit has me sold, as does the deep counter system.
One of the many reasons I love Destructoid is because of blogs like this. I adore a few specific genres, and randomly, due to these posts, I'm exposed to games I missed, and should have picked up back in the day.
Cue stream of consciousness rant:
Personally, I find the PS2 to be the absolute king of action games. My collection is growing and growing, but I have at least 30 more action titles I need to pick up, including this one, which coincidentally, is $6. The day Gamestop exiles PS2 games, I will weep.
