Players can elect to summon "cartoony" versions of bats, bombs, guns, and flamethrowers. These types of items can be used to destroy objects or even other summoned items (e.g., a club can be used to hit an animal; steak can be attached to a baby to attract lions; rockets can be lobbed at a man).

Tubatic's Vault: Random NES Cartridges!
Tubatic | 9:44 PM on 12.17.2008 16 comments

Diving a bit deeper into the NES game box, there are a few cool finds in the collection. Many of these don't need much commentary, but there are a few notable . . . notes!

Yep, Wall Street Kid! I never got past the second month in this game,

Shadowgate! I must admit, this is another game I didn't get very far in, but I know some people have fond memories of it.

Ah StarTropics. Having finished tis game, it appears the letter has been expired and is long gone.

Looking back, the game manuals were generally very well done.

Manuals also came in the "What are you talking about?" variety. The book for Simon's Quest has a section for "Dracula's Best Buddies". I guess the effect was to soften the scary factor for younger gamers. But really. What?

Old School Medusa Head is Old School.

The Action RPG Co-Op pre-cursor to . . . everything!

Food for thought: RCR contains most of the selling points and gameplay elements of Fable II.

River City Ransom, though short of in game details for story, had descriptions for they main enemies in the manual.

Classic, of course.

Another ULTRA/Konami classic: the gutted remixed and twisted beginning to the Metal Gear franchise in America. How twisted?

Who's Venom McCaffey?!!?!!!?

Maniac Mansion! Remember when they recalled this game for being able to microwave a hamster? The copy I have has it! Trivia minutia, but I'm still pretty stoked about it.

At last count, I think the NES carts in our collection reached about 100 or so. In that hundred, there were plenty of completely obscure games. Dragon Spirits and DynoWars.

Note the clear statement of "Game Description" and the heavy slathering of inconsequential story.

Next up in the Vault: Its a game on a card that isn't on the TurboGraphics 16. What's going on?!

Spreadsheet investment management crossed with a dating/social links sim.

And it had a sequel in Japan.

Wrap your head around that one. :)

Oh, the days when the backs of game boxes weren't cluttered with the logos of four game engines, three collaborating developers, two video codecs, and a partridge in a pear tree.

God, the Dynowarz box is epic beyond belief. It doesn't get any better then a robot shooting a laser through a robot dinosaur. Awful game, tho.

If I wrapped my head around that, I might go into a coma.

Shadowgate = Win. Never beat the game until it resurfaced on the GBC. Actually SG was abit shite but still good memories :)

@Riderchop

lol yeah, not nearly as awesome as the box art implies.

@ Welkstar

I'm glad to hear that! I've got a few more planned out for the near future, then I'll keep these going once a month-ish for a bit.
