Growing up, I really didn't have too much a gaming life on any of the Sony systems up until the purchase of my PS3 at it's launch. I've played a few here and there, but never anything "hardcore" I guess you could say? My favorite PS1 game is Ape Escape, haha! I guess what I'm really looking for is suggestions for games to checkout on PS1/2. I have never really been too fond of JRPG's though, so many not too many of those.

Just some serious suggestions.

As much as I love the PS2 library to death, I think my golden age of gaming was with the PS1. Anyway some PS1 games off the top of my head:

Galerians, G-Police, Silent Hill, Colony Wars series, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve 1 & 2, Resident Evil series (with maybe the exception of Survivor), Deception series, Wild9, Metal Gear Solid

etc, etc.

Here's some of my favorites that haven't been already mentioned (and aren't JRPGs) off the top of my head:
Zone of Enders 2, Yakuza 1 and 2, Devil May Cry 1 and 3(special edition preferably), Amplitude, Frequency, Beyond Good & Evil, Katamari Damacy, Psychonauts, Onimusha 3...

God Hand, Bard's Tale, Kingdom Hearts (after playing all the better rpg's), Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Steel Harbinger for the PS1 if only for the cutscenes.

i would suggest re1, re2, any medal gear game is gold, dmc1,2, maybe 3. soo many to choose from you can't go wrong. gat vice city, san andreas.........

Geez, I haven't thought about PS1/2 era games in a while, so not much is coming to mind that hasn't already been said. I've heard very good things about a game called The Red Star, which is highly recommended by the RetroforceGO! crew.

If you're into anime, giant robots fighting each other, and squad-based combat, you might want to check out Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front.

And yeah, if you haven't played the God of War games, do so immediately. They were my favorite PS2 games.

Answer to all three is simple...at least for me. Metal Gear Solid.

Like Char Aznable God of War kicks ass. They are some of the top sauce on the PS2. God of war 1 and 2 you can get for cheep and youll be a good amount of time out of them. But I think some people might be forgetting another game for PS2...RESIDENT EVIL 4. Can't go wrong with RE4 on ps2. Youll get a shit load of hours from that purchase. Trust me
