So, a few years ago, Capcom USA's one and only development studio closed down. They were called Capcom Design Studio 8, and they made a total of three games in their +6 years of existance. Those games were...
1) Maximo, an average game. A decent tribute/imitation of Ghosts 'N Goblins, but in no way worthy of the games that inspired it.
2) Maximo 2, a slightly less good version of the first game
3) Final Fight Streetwise, a "so bad it's funny" horrid deformation of everything that made Final Fight awesome.
Then they closed...Thank god. I was afraid for a second there they may some day be involved with Bionic Commando and Street Fighter, the two Capcom series I most hungrily awaited follow ups to. Capcom USA being involved with those two series would be a near armagedon level gaming catastrophy. Like with Final Fight Streetwise, Capcom USA would be sure to ruin Bionic Commando and/or Street Fighter for everyone by turnign them into high profile shovelware, effectively killing the series and leaving no opportunity for more dedicated and skilled developers to make proper sequels.
So that brings us to a few days ago.
New Bionic Commando game? AWESOME! Is Mikami involved? Inafune? Or even Suda 51? WOOT! This is going to kick some ass!
Oh wait... what? What the fuck is this American dude doing talking about making a new Bionic Commando game? He's just a PR guy, right? And why does Radd Spencer have frat guy in an "experimental phase" dreadlocks? And why are the Badds generic sci-fi channel orignal programing looking dudes? In fact, why has everything become a lame generic American sci-fi cliche?
OH SHIT! IT'S HAPPENING! IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING>!>!?!?!
Capcom USA has re-opened it's shit stained doors, and they've finally got their smelly, wart covered hands all over the Capcom Japan series that I love most dearly.
Bionic Commando being turned into
"Transmorphers" quality quatch came as a terrible shock, but one I could recover from, as long as Street Fighter was safe.
And it would be safe, right? It was one of Capcom's most beloved series after all, one that reportedly kept the developer from going bankrupt more than a few times. They wouldn't sell that out to the American fuck heads who have proven capable at best of lame Fan-Art esque tributes, and at worst the rape/murder/kill of a series?
Capcom wouldn't let that happen, right?
Right?
Wrong.
All these years I should have known that something was amiss. Why would Capcom Japan take this long to produce a new Street Fighter game? They make at least 3 Mega Man games a year, a Resident Evil game every other year, and are still going with series no one really cares about like Onimusha and Quiz and Dragons.
The reason for that is, they don't give a rats ass about Street Fighter anymore. Most of the creative staff who made Street Fighter 1 and 2 are long gone from Capcom, and are now either at SNK, Sammy, or some other company. Capcom Japan made their money off the Street Fighter series and creatively have nothing more to add, especially after they worked their asses of with Street Fighter 3 to only have it be abandoned by long time fans for Tekken and Soul Calibur.
And with that, the soul of Street Fighter is dead, it's corpse sold to the Americans.
How do I know? Well, it doesn't take too much Matlocking to find out.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
To me this is as bad as if Kojima's Metal Gear Solid 4 was scrapped for good, with Konomi handing the IP to Brownie Brown to develop as a 2D educational flash game. It's the end of an era, and the start of a truly ugly shit sandwich.
Your thoughts, D-Toid?
and maybe a usa team will give us characters that arent from the darkstalkers series(looking at you twelve and necros)
but seriously though they have been doing us pretty good with the fan service remakes so i trust them
also, i lost faith in bionic commando when it wasnt announced for the wii
Ben Judd also did a voice in God Hand, go him.
I forgot what I was going to write about Street Fighter, but it probably isn't going to show up until at least a year from now. I do wonder if it is going to be arcade or straight to console (arcades are dead, no?)
You know who is doing well nowadays? AMERICAN midway, with the best selling fighting game franchise in MK (unless you count Smash Bros as a fighting game, but come on now)
So I hope Capcom US just gets good developers and the game can be great. GTA San Andreas, Halo 3 and others are selling so much more thna anything japan has to offer isn't even funny. Japan can only sell those weird emo games for DS and that's it.
Imagine a God of War production for a game like Street Fighter. More than that, guys who actually know the SF engine really well are deeply envolved with Capcom US, like tournament players and stuff. Since they know not only the engine, but what to do with it, the game can now be prevented from being ridiculously broken like 3rd Strike with Yun or Super Turbo with Akuma.
Most profesional American game developers don't like videogames. They try to make video games into sci-fi movies, comic books, etc because that's the field they wish they were working in.
Just look at the production art for the new Commando game by Capcom USA. Shit, that guy doesn't want to be making a video game. He want's to be making a Kids WB cartoon.
Basicly, it's not that American doesn't have talent, it's that in our society the video game is considered the least respectable media to work in. As such, most American video games try not to look and play like video games, which makes me hate them.
In Japan, the video game market is king, over movies, tv, and even Manga and Anime. To be a video game developer means celebrity. Yuji Naka, Miyamoto, Kojima, Suda 51, Mikami, the list goes on.
They are rock stars in Japan. Here, they'd just be nerds.
these games will be, at best, mediocre.
Our first real look at Street Fighter IV in a playable state will be interesting to say the least. Like Necros, I'm not without hope, but the evidence is fairly damning.
An I don't really like Halo, God of War, or GTA. They are are video games that want to be action or sci-fi movies. All good games, just not appealing to me. I think they are more popular with the 18 and under crowd.
And Japanese games still sell pretty well. I think you've heard of Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasty, Resident Evil and that Nintendo company.
Their sales aint to bad, no?
SF3 gave us Ryu, Ken and Chun Li, the rest of the cast was scrapped with a bunch of people nobody knew, some pale electric guy, a giant metal detective, a very dexterous african girl, you had nothing familiar to old fans, not to mention how they nerfed some of their newer guys with 2nd impact and 3rd strike, fans got pissed and left.
You're wrong on Maximo, not only was it in fact well received but it did do a good job of continuing the long defunct ghouls and ghosts franchise, what with the numerous powerups, quirky characters and brutal difficulty, so it didn't have the frustration fest that Super Ghouls and Ghosts had, so it wasn't Arthur in it, who gives a shit? The game did what it set out to do, and it did it well.
Maximo 2 tried to improve on Maximo did with a more robust combo system and make it a bit more accesible by toning down the difficulty, sadly it was ignored by the masses and people like you, shame the trilogy will never conclude, try off your nostalgia googles and try it out, you might actually like it.
