Ghostbusters PS2 Wii scans, info
Tron Knotts | 6:45 AM on 11.21.2007 16 comments

So, the new GhostBusters movie is going to be a game, and as there is no universal game console format (yet) as there is with DVD, the games creator's must come in two seperate flavors, one for the PS3/360 and the other for the Wii/PS2. Can you imagine the outrage if a movie had to be made twice, once for DVD and once for VHS? The film industry wouldn't put up with that crap, and neither would movie studios. But we gamers, both on the development and consumer side of things, have learned to settle for less.

But I digress.

Little has been seen of the Wii/PS2 versions of the new Ghostbusters game, until now. GameInformer #176 has all the deets, including an interview with Dan Aykroyd, tons of screen shots, and the debut look at the Wii/PS2 build of the game. I don't know what took them so long, as more people will likely be picking up the Wii/PS2 game than the PS3/360 ver, what with the Wii and the PS2 having the largest worldwide install base in all of consloe-dom. Maybe the Wii/PS2 version is not as exciting a prospect to the games creators. I for one prefer the Pixar-ish look to the game. Realistic pocky faced Virtua-Bill Murray FTL.

Anyway, on with he scans.

EDIT: Woah! I made it to GoNintendo. Just for that, I'll add some cropped close ups of the screen shots and text.

Thanks, Bethany!

I think I actually like the Pixar-ish look too. Not to say that the other version doesn't look awesome, but the PS2/Wii versions look pretty stylized, and I always appreciate something that tries to look different instead of always going for hyper-realism. Ghostbusters wasn't really serious in any way to begin with, so the lighthearted look doesn't really hurt it in any way.

This looks pretty good, and the comics and cartoons were great anyway. Zapping ghosts with the Wii could be interesting.

They finally get it!

Don't try and cram realistic graphics onto the Wii/PS2; so instead, just make it SURREAL. I'm so happy someone had a brain enough to follow through with this.

And the whole "no movie, just a game" dealio is righteous (yeah I pulled that word out from the distant past). Just gotta make sure they don't make another movie from the game.... EVER!

Thanks for the scans, Tron

Speaking of "zapping ghosts with the Wii," I think it'd be cool to use the Wii Zapper for this game :)

Nice, Questworld. You created a profile here just to say that.

Now please go on to make that identical comment on every blog on this site.

I didn't create my profile yesterday y'know. Fine, you want me to say something with more depth? I think the cartoonish version of the actors was a nice touch. I did however hoped that they would provide 3D versions of the Real Ghostbusters (not celshaded mind you, at least not the type like that in The Simpsons game, but more of the type in Zack and Wiki, no dark outline and such). I do wonder if they might do an unlockable for that (or at least a color swap for the cartoon's more colorful jumpsuits) and in the same hand, I wonder if these cartoony avatars will also be unlockable for the 360/PS3 versions. I also hope Slimer looks as adorable as his Real Ghostbusters counterpart (big bright cartoony eyes) on the Wii/PS2 version because I was never fond of his Ghostbusters 2 version. Oh yeah, and they need to change the reticule to something else more elegant as oppose to the basic cross shape.

By the way, thanks for posting this.

Oh yes, and with the characters in this version being more cartoony, I hope they make the facial expressions and general reactions more lively. You hardly see very expressive character (facial) animation when it's based on "realistic" graphics. So if Ray went "HEY GUYS!!!" or Peter hugging the dancing toaster like in the movie, the expression can be as expressive as those in, say, Meet the Robinsons.

Sorry Questworld. I retract my earlier statement. I checked your profile and it said you never commented before, but I may have been looking at the info wrong.

But I was serious about you posting "It's Miller Time" in every post ever.

It's always a good think to point out to the people.

I've only done it twice as far as I can recall, it's hardly something to bite my head off for. Besides, many other have done similar quotes to express their excitement for this news. If it had irritated you that much then how about a little warning in the future (I mean it is your blog so it's not like I don't respect people's wishes in their own domain, even a public one).
