If that title confused you, you're not alone. Even my cat is looking at me funny after that one.
Let me explain. As many of you know, last month I won some stuff in a Mega Man character design contest. I owe a lot of that to the D-toid community, as many of you voted for me. Thanks again. I wanted to re-gift some of the prizes here to further show my gratitude to the 'toid. I did one contest already, but that was over too fast due to LostCrichton's ass kicking Wolfman movie watching skills. So I'm doing this contest to make up for that. It's one that's sure to last at least a few weeks, maybe even until February. Here it is. The official Tron Knotts Capcom Characters in Smash Bros Brawl Prize Drawing.
Like many of you, I'm into the idea of Smash Bros Brawl. It's the crossover appeal of Smash taht psyches me up about the game, more so than the graphics or the gameplay. That being said, my current focus on Brawl and it's website The Smash Bros Dojo is what non-Nintendo character will be announced for the game next. My hope is it's a Capcom character. Here are the four I think have the best shot. Akuma:
Why Akuma and not Ryu? Well, he's the only Street Fighter character to show up as playable in a non-Street Fighter game series. He appears in the 90's Capcom fighters X-Men:Children of the Atom and Cyberbots:Full Metal Madness, as well as numerous other Stret Fighter related games. He's might not be as popular as Ryu or Chun-Li, but I'm not even sure that that's true. He has a rabid fan-base. And he's arguably a much cooler looking than Ryu, who is just a generic karate guy in terms of his design, or Chun-Li who is just another female fighter with a totally illogical fighting outfit and big cans. And I think Akuma would just fit better in Smash. He looks inhuman, like a cross between Ryu, Wario, and Gannondorf. That's a perfect fit for Brawl. Not to mention his final smash would be one of the best in the game. Jill Valentine:
Why Jill and not Leon or Chris? Like Akuma, Jill is the only major Resident Evil character to venture out of her game series, making appearances in both Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and the weird prank based multiplayer game Under the Skin. She's also been playable in just as many RE games as any other RE character, including RE1, RE3, and nowin Umbrella Chronicles' new "End of Umbrella" scenerio. And she's unlike Chris or Leon, she's in the RE movies. Unlike other RE game characters to make the jump to the films,, Jill really seemed like Jill her movie roll, much more so than Carlos or Claire. That makes her probably the most visually recognizable RE game character to a cross over audience. Plus, she's a hot, tough, "realistic" girl. Brawl does not yet have another character fitting that description. We already have a tough guy in Smash with Snake, we wouldn't need another one in Leon or Chris. And while Zero Suit Samus is hot and tough, she spends most of her time in a space suit. For those reasons I think Jill would fill a vacuum in the Brawl line up. Mega Man:
Many people believe that he's already locked to to appear in Brawl. He was supposidly in the top three most requested non-Nintedo characters in that Japan only poll that Brawl's developers held online. He's been in more "real" games (meaning non-sports spin offs or party games) than any other video game character, even Mario. Just off teh top of my head, I can count 32 games Mega Man has stared in in the past 20 years. He was a major part of what made the NES one of the all time great systems, as Mega Man 2 is on almost every top ten NES game list I've ever seen. I know that Mega Man 2 is my favorite NES game ever, even better than SMB3 or Legend of Zelda. He's also been in tons of other cross over games, like the Mervel Vs Capcom, Cannon Spike, Onimusha, and Boktai series (made by Kojima, a friend of Sakuari's and designer of Solid Snake). I think if Mega Man isn't in the game, many people will be dissappointed. It not really a question of "if", but "which" Mega Man will appear in Brawl, as there have been over seven different versions of the character. Or he may not appear in the game at all. Stranger things have certianly happened. Viewtiful Joe:
He's the definitive dark horse contender in this battle, but Viewtiful Joe has a lot more going for him than many may think. He's in a relatively popular television series. He's the most recent Capcom character to actually gain some popularity and get his own series of games going. He got his start on a Nintendo console. He's currently not in state of being over exposed, so his appearance would really be a surprise. And most importantly, he would fit in Smash Bros, perhaps better than all of the above mentioned Capcom stars. Like Smash Bros, the Vieftiful Joe games are 2D fighters rendered with 3D graphics. Like Smash they have a very weird, over the top sense of humor, simultaneously poking fun and paying tribute to many video games. And Viewtiful Joe just looks like a Smash Bros character. It's an obvious fit. Just my opinion. So, those are the Capcom characters I think a have the best shot of being in Brawl. What does that have to do with a contest, or a drawing, or whatever hell this is? Well, what I want you to do is post one of these character's names in the comments section of this thread. If one, two, three, or even four of these characters are actually shown on the Smash Dojo website to be playable in Brawl, I will then do a random drawing of all the people that "voted" for that character and send them a prize. If Akuma is announced, I will give away a copy of Capcom Classics Collection Vol 1 for the PS2 to the winner of his random drawing. If Jill Valentine is announced, I will give away a copy of Resident Evil: Deadly Silence for the DS to the winner of her random drawing.. If Mega Man is announced, I will give away a copy of Mega Man Starforce:Pegasus to the winner of his random drawing. If Viewtiful Joe is announced: I will give away a copy of Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble on the PSP to the winner of his random drawing. These are games I just have lying around my house. Some may be opened, some may not. I honestly can't remember. So don't be too sad if you win and your game is open or something. I can guarentee you that it will work, and that I never got no poops on it or nothing. Rules Each member of D-toid can only vote for ONE CHARACTER, and only vote once. So you can't vote for Mega Man, Akuma, and Jill, and Joe to compete in all four drawings. You've got to commit to one character, based on which one you think has the best chance, and which prize you want the most. If I find out that any of you have started new D-toid accounts just to enter more than once, you will be disqualified both from this contest, and from life in general. You wont get to compete in things ever again, forever branded with the moniker "ass-munch". And the winner of each drawing gets a drawing done by me of whatever they want. Boobs, butts, knees, I can draw them all with relative ease. But no buildings. Or cars. They're too hard. If none of the characters make it in the game, then I will draw a name from all the contestants and give them surprise. Maybe even a puppy. This drawing/contest ends when the Dojo stops updating, or when Brawl comes out, which ever comes first. Or I guess it would end if all four characters were announced to be in Brawl before the game is released and before the Dojo stops it's updates. I wouldn't count that out, considering how crazy the Dojo's been. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or ask them here. But do it fast, as Akuma, Mega Man, Jill, or Joe could be announced any day now on the Dojo, and anyone "voting" for them after they are already announced will obviously be disqualified.

I'm going to send this over to Nick Chester to see if it's contest page worthy. If not, I'll have to post it again on a daily basis for a while, just to make sure the "love" is spread evenly amongst the D-Toid community.
Funny you would mention that, because my #1 hope for Brawl is that there is a secret to allow you to play the entire game with 8 bit graphics.
I am a whore to the NES. If they made new NES games today, I would buy them in a heart beat. And Brawl, more than any other modern game, would be awesome to play with NES style.
Cammy is in Cannon Spike (Charlie too actually). Also Mega Man.
And uh... I honestly don't see any of them showing up except maybe Mega Man. I will go trick horse though, and say it will be Frank West IN the Mega Man costume.
But keep doing it yourself baby.
I was seriously hoping for a sprite mode in brawl too! 8-bit and 16-bit! They could use the versions of a character from it's 8 and 16 bit games, and if their wasn't one for a character they could easily just make one up. Too bad, it'll probably never happen though.
But still, you have a point.
I'm also remembering now that Cammy was in Final Fight: Streetwise, though she wasn't playable.
So do you think Cammy has a better chance than Akuma? Or do you think they are equally unlikely?
16-bit sprites would also be awesome. But they are seriously hard to pull off well.
But if Sakurai wants it to happen, I'm sure it will.
he's been in nintendo games before and megaman was done in onimusha blade warriors.
so.
henshin a go go.
My only suggestion would be to change Jill Valentine to Geno simply because of the same problem with developing a moveset for Snake. Since Sakurai wanted the E rating he couldn't include the use of a gun in Snake's moveset, thus reducing the potential move pool for Jill to using a knife... and lock-picking.
Akuma- 0
Mega Man- 9
Jill- 1
Joe- 1
Fuck Sonic indeed.
@zeke: dont fox and falco have guns ? wtf inconsistency.
Good Luck Contestants!
So, I think I'll repost this thread every once and a while, maybe every morning, until people stop posting in it.
And thanks Vandamguy!
So it's now time to tally.
Akuma- 1
Mega Man- 11
Jill- 1
Joe- 1
I wonder if they will all make it in Street Fighter 4?
Probably not, but a Capcom rip off of Smash Bros could be pretty great.
Underdog baby.
With Sakurai supposedly friends with VJ's co-creator Mikami, anything is possible.
I'm sure he won't be able to slow/speed down time while he's fighting, but that's what Final Smashes are for eh?
Anyways, I dont think Megaman should be in there because, well come on, He'll end up playing just like Samus and everyon will bitch about it. Serious, what the hell else is he gonna do? Shoot snakes? Although, I suppose he could get an ability similar to Kirby I suppose...
He really does fit in with Smash Bros, especially since he got his start on the 'Cube.
Personally, I'd love to see Hsien-Ko, Lord Raptor, or another Darkstalker in the game.
Akuma- 1
Mega Man -[b]14[b]
Jill- 1
Joe- 5
Only 21 people have entered in this totally free, easy to enter contest? What gives?
