Viggo Mortensen and eXistenZ director win sarcasm award in hilarious interview with Ms. Bubbles
Tristero | 11:58 AM on 10.07.2007 22 comments

VIDEO IS UP! David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen give a light-hearted interview with a peppy college student. Massive laughter ensues. I thought it would be impossible to love these two guys any more than I already do. If by some miracle either of you read this, please know that my soul admires you and I would like to give you a high-five. Awesome possum, indeed. Short post is short, but epic video is epic.

They tried to disable my earlier video embedding hack out of embarassment, but I think I've got'em beat with some back door tricks! Just in case they catch me and pull the video down you can try to watch it here. It's already made my day a couple of times.

Here's a trip down memory lane.

Does anyone else here even like Cronenberg? I think eXistenZ was a flawed but important movie, but the rest of the man's output springs forth from secret lakes of genius the likes of which will remain unparalleled for a long time. His films work like a secret decoder ring to our contemporary media-saturated culture. Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Long Live the New Flesh!

I respect Cronenberg because he is a filmmaker who, some would say, takes risks and experiments with ideas. And because of this, the quality of his body of work is all over the map. But even if I didn't like a movie of his, I'd still say after watching it "I'd love to see any other director even attempt this shit."

I like Cronenberg depending on the film. Regardless of that he takes huge risks and that rocks.

Awesome Possum!! What a genius interview! Loved it!

Still can't believe you referred to Cronenberg as "eXistenZ director"! That's like referring to Spielberg as "Evolution director"! Ha ha ha! ;)

Cheers for the vid man.

When you said Ms. Bubbles, I totally read it as Mr. Bubbles and thought there's be a discussion with a Big Daddy.

@glipe: yeah, I figured since this was a videogame site I should keep it semi-relevant. I seriously celebrate his entire catalogue (like Michael Bolton) and I think eXistenZ is the weakest, but it's got some cool ideas once you dig past the surface-level badness. The end isn't supposed to be a "trick" or surprise and it's got a strong anti-censorship slant to it. Just watched it again today and was surprised by all the stuff I misread the first time.

He is absolutely amazing. No one does violence like him, making it not just awesome but integral to his films.

I love Viggo Mortensen. He is heat incarnate.

The college student was a little annoying, but I'm sure she was trying her best.

Her first interview, eh? Hopefully her last as well.
