Hey Dtoid, I'm TriplZer0.

I'm a science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction writer by trade, but aside from writing, video games are my biggest passion. I also write over at Gamer Limit.

The first console my brothers and I ever got was an SNES for Christmas one year. Since then, we've owned an N64, Playstation, PS2, and an Xbox 360. I got a Gameboy Color one year for Christmas, but my brothers are more into handheld gaming than me. Every time they upgrade to the latest system I get their hand-me-downs. That's how I obtained my GBA and my two DS's. Handheld gaming for some reason doesn't interest me even though I know there are great games out there. The first console I've ever been the exclusive owner of is my PS3. The first games I ever played were Super Mario World, F-Zero, 7th Saga (which I've written about), and Out of This World.

My favorite genres are RPGs (Western or Japanese), FPS, action/adventure, and RTS (even though I suck at them).

Killzone 2 Update
TriplZer0 | 5:43 PM on 07.15.2009 13 comments

So I fired up Killzone 2 the other day and downloaded the latest update. I know people have probably already been talking about it -- about the way the games list screen has changed. You can now see the maps a game is playing along with other useful information. It's a much needed and welcomed improvement.

However there is still one thing missing! Duration.

Now I know that a 30 min game of body count might not take the whole 30 min, but most of the time, I don't have time to play a game that's 30 min body count, 15 search and destroy, 20 search and retrieve, 15 capture and hold, etc. etc.

I don't know how many times I've joined a game that looks promising. They're playing maps I like (multiple maps), not just Radec Academy, but each game mode has an obscenely long time limit. I want to be able to see how long each mission's duration is before I join the game and look like a dick for joining and then leaving right away.

Who knows, maybe there actually is a way to see the times or there's an easier to way to join and quit without the hassle. But I hope this feature is something that gets added in the next round of patches.

PS - On a happier note, I really like the Southern Hills map. Beach Head is pretty good too, but I haven't gotten to see much of it. When I found a game playing it, most of the fighting was taking place near the ISA base in the craters and pipes. But my reaction has been less positive than Southern Hills.

PSS - I need some friends for my friends list. Only 1 of my friends has a ps3 and he plays only sports games. So if there're any Dtoiders out there who want to play, hit me up. Triplzer0

Yeah, I know what you mean, I stumbled upon a match the other day. It took me more than an hour to beat. I have to say it felt kinda epic though. 30 mins search and destroy was awesome. Maybe I was just lucky. There weren't any douchebags around and everybody was really working together.

I guess most people host these kind of matches to rake in some serious XP. Because of that 3 point per kill on deathmatches and sorts.

I can't add you because my list is full but we're gonna play Killzone again on FNF. Keep on the lookout for that blog next Friday.

Yeah I remember waiting for you for ages. "Another ten minutes." "Damn it dude, it was ten minutes thirty minutes ago."...I guess you could always just cut the power when you have to go, even if it's undesirable.

PS to your PSS
I didn't know you were friends with Samit.

I'm still debating getting a PS3 and Killzone 2 would be a game I'd pick up with the console. So if that happens...Killzone party!

At least we get more information than just the name of the game (cause B00bsAndBooze just really doesn't tell you a lot!).
... and if you cut out of a game, you still keep your stats - so if the game is too long people can always just quit.

I believe they also nerfed the airbots a bit in this patch, which is nice - they were strengthened a little too much in the last patch and went from annoying mosquitoes to an air raid! They also added in the ability to have double point weekends or whatever... I'm looking forward to that!!

That's why I always look for Warzone games since they're the default settings. I don't care that Assaults are allowed because I use to be an Assault player and everything is fair game. Plus I know my boost combo is allowed which is all that really matters. People who think long games = more xp are wrong. Since the multiplier is 1.5 for a winning round, you would get more XP by playing two average Warzone games than just one really long game. But I guess that depends on how skilled of a player your are. Anyways, add me. I'll be glad to play a few rounds with ya.

@Patman

The more XP for long games is partly right. Once you get that one ribbon or medal or whatever it's called. You get 3 points for killing someone on a Deathmatch. So if that goes on for 30 mins instead of 10 you get a lot more XP. But yeah, you need to be skilled enough to kill a few people.

I know. And I'm saying this as someone who has said medal. For deathmatch only games, what I said doesn't apply. When it comes to a game with all modes, then it depends on your skill level. If you're a really good player, you'll benefit more through shorter matches because that x1.5 multiplier becomes a x2 multiplier.

Yup, you're right. I guess I never really noticed the x2 multiplier.

I'm playing through Dead Space and battlefield at the moment but I'll be on Friday and other times.

As for the Air Bot's news, HUZZAH! That's a nice change :) They were to powerful IMHO.

As for the time issue, I'm pretty sure it says a number (time limit) next to the symbols for the game modes and you can work it out from there, like you did in your blog.
