I was over at GamePolitics.com as usual getting my daily game related news, and there it was. I don't live in the UK so their decisions don't directly effect me, but it still pisses me off because it's really hypocritical. According to GamePolitics they turn Manhunt 2 away in both it's uncut and edited forms, but okays an uncut version of a film featuring graphic scenes of throatslitting, child prostitution and a man having an eye gouged out. That's not even the best part, their excuses for allowing the movie just insults gamers intelligence. The BBFC said: "The BBFC provides clear consumer advice. If the board went about cutting out every scene liable to offend then we would be leaving adults without any choice. Who’s to decide what adults can or can’t watch?" Yes, who are they to decide what adults can or can't watch? But it's just fine to tell those same adults what they can and can't play. Forget for a moment that a child can also get their hands on films such as these as easily, if not more so, as an "inappropriate" video game, why can't we have the same choice in what we play? The Wii version can't even be used as part of the excuse because then why wasn't the PS2 version okay'd then? It's like they're just slapping gamers in the face and telling us we are too stupid to make that decision. Like I said, it doesn't directly effect me because I don't live in the UK. But in the US we're still putting up with the same kind of treatment since console developers (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) won't allow Adults Only games on their consoles and retailers refuse to carry them, so it's basically the equivalent of a ban. It's like we, as adults, are being told from all sides that we cannot handle the game as it was meant to be, but we can sit and watch torture flicks such as Saw, Hostel, Touristas, and The Passion of The Christ. But can't see a much less graphic video game in all it's uncut glory. Manhunt was pretty brutal, but it never went into such detail that we actually could see eyes being riped out or necks slashed wide open, etc. The double standards are just mind numbingly ridiculous, and these people don't seem to care that there is no real logic behind decisions like these.

The BBFC has shown their considerable ignorance on many occasions, but this one is particularly funny. According to the BBFC, adults in GB don't "watch" games, they press buttons with their eyes closed.
