About Me
What can I say? Basically, I've been playing video games almost my entire life, currently 25 years old, starting all the way back with the Atari and moving on up over the years. I loved playing with the Atari, but my "hardcoreness", I suppose you could say, didn't really set in until I got a Nintendo Entertainment System.

Super Mario Bros. was great and all, but Mega Man is what solidified my love of gaming, at least that's what stands out the most reminiscing of my childhood of gaming. Also games like Super Mario Bros. 3.

My next console leap was to the Sega Genesis and sometime later I got the Super Nintendo. Super Nintendo was hands down the better of the two consoles in my eyes. The Genesis became an abomination toward the end of it's life cycle. I'd like to claim it was pure hardcoreness that led me to purchase a 32X and such, but honestly it was stupidity, heh.

I skipped the Saturn, wasn't a big fan of Sega at this point and honestly I didn't have any interest in anything on the system. I got a Playstation and eventually a Nintendo 64.

Playstation 2 was next and then eventually a Sega Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was a great system but still ended up failing, which sucks since it ultimately set Sega packing in the console making business. Playstation 2 was great. I got an XBox later and followed much later by a Game Cube.

This generation of consoles I have an XBox 360 and a Nintendo Wii. Both great consoles in their own ways. Don't yet have a PS3, I refused to purchase one until Yakuza 3 was announced for release in the US. It hasn't been officially announced yet, but it's not looking too bad. I may have a PS3 not long from now, but one positive thing about waiting so long is that I'll be able to pick up many great games for low prices if they came out a while ago.

I enjoy a lot of different games and genres. I play a lot of FPS, action/adventure, horror, etc. Love the Resident Evil series, Legacy of Kain series, early Mega Man titles, various wrestling titles, etc.

BBFC says no to Manhunt 2, but says yes to a equally depraved movie with ironic comments.

I was over at GamePolitics.com as usual getting my daily game related news, and there it was. I don't live in the UK so their decisions don't directly effect me, but it still pisses me off because it's really hypocritical. According to GamePolitics they turn Manhunt 2 away in both it's uncut and edited forms, but okays an uncut version of a film featuring graphic scenes of throatslitting, child prostitution and a man having an eye gouged out. That's not even the best part, their excuses for allowing the movie just insults gamers intelligence.

The BBFC said: "The BBFC provides clear consumer advice. If the board went about cutting out every scene liable to offend then we would be leaving adults without any choice. Who’s to decide what adults can or can’t watch?"

Yes, who are they to decide what adults can or can't watch? But it's just fine to tell those same adults what they can and can't play. Forget for a moment that a child can also get their hands on films such as these as easily, if not more so, as an "inappropriate" video game, why can't we have the same choice in what we play? The Wii version can't even be used as part of the excuse because then why wasn't the PS2 version okay'd then? It's like they're just slapping gamers in the face and telling us we are too stupid to make that decision.

Like I said, it doesn't directly effect me because I don't live in the UK. But in the US we're still putting up with the same kind of treatment since console developers (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) won't allow Adults Only games on their consoles and retailers refuse to carry them, so it's basically the equivalent of a ban. It's like we, as adults, are being told from all sides that we cannot handle the game as it was meant to be, but we can sit and watch torture flicks such as Saw, Hostel, Touristas, and The Passion of The Christ. But can't see a much less graphic video game in all it's uncut glory.

Manhunt was pretty brutal, but it never went into such detail that we actually could see eyes being riped out or necks slashed wide open, etc. The double standards are just mind numbingly ridiculous, and these people don't seem to care that there is no real logic behind decisions like these.

I'm going to start using the phrase "holy balls" at least once a day, and twice on Sundays.

The BBFC has shown their considerable ignorance on many occasions, but this one is particularly funny. According to the BBFC, adults in GB don't "watch" games, they press buttons with their eyes closed.
