Starcraft 2 System Requirements... sigh
Trev | 2:45 PM on 05.22.2008 26 comments

CVG sez:
Minimum Requirements:
GFX: GeForce 7/8 Series or Radeon 1000/2000 with 25Mb RAM
CPU: Pentium 4
RAM: 1Gb
Internet: ADSL 1 MBit

Recommend Requirements:
GFX: GeForce 8000 or Radeon 2000 series with 512Mb RAM
CPU: Core 2 Duo or Athlon X2
RAM: 2Gb
Internet: ADSL 3 Mbit

Optimal Requirements:
GFX: Geforce 9000er or Radeon 3000er Series
CPU: Core 2 Duo 3 Ghz or Athlon X2
RAM: 2Gb with DualChannel mode.

Pretty hefty, especially for gamers like myself that spend most of their time on consoles. I won't be playing this without, at minimum, upgrading my graphics card.

It's probably a lie. Blizzard are known for building engines that can be played on old-ass hardware while still looking gorgeous on low settings. I wouldn't worry about upgrading unless you really want something spectacular to stare at.

I don't get excited about PC games anymore because I won't be able to run them. :( It's sad because when the day Diablo 3 finally comes out I won't be able to have it's babies.

I think I meet the reccomendededeeddeddded specs.

GFX: 8800 GTS SCC (320Mb-only a 19" screen though)
CPU: Amd 4600x2 (I think this is ok)
RAM: 2Gb

I hate, HATE the 1st and only Starcraft but this new, shiny one interests me.

I do loves me my consoles though as I don't have to buy anything new for about 5 or so years compared to like every year on PC's

I'm between minimum and recommended just because of my vidcard, but I'll still try to upgrade to optimal(need to new procs also for that), after all, it IS Starcraft.

Minimum Requirements: Small third world country, preferrably larger than Zimbabwe.

Optimal Requirements: Russia.

For one thing, the minimum reqs arent that crazy.

Im also excited that I'm building a new computer this Christmas, and as such will have a computer that can run this at max settings :D

Does it really surprise you though? It's a current-gen graphics engine, they're probably tired of being 'the company that makes really low system reqs.' They probably figure: well, Crysis sold pretty well, people should be able to run this!

But yeah, thank god graduation is soon for me, I'll be able to run it at recommended :D

First: dont trust that information that much
Second we dont even know when the game is coming out... my bets are on 2009, so probably this sys req are not going to be that crazy.

Wait baby don't cry! I'm sorry!

I do own the game and the expansion and played tons in grade 7 but my buddy asked me to play for a bit a few months back and I did not have fun. I'm more of a C&C kinda guy, but that doesn't mean me and you can't swings no moar!

I think they would be mad to have the settings this high especially after they did all that testing to make sure the korean fanbase would love it. I don't see all those internet cafes spending the money it would take to upgrade all their machines.

I could believe the optimal but I think the minimum will be lower than that.

My computer just needs less cat hair in it, fans that actually fan, and I should be okay. Still eating dried beans off the floor after the tax man cleaned out my bank account.

My comp can run it effortlessly -- yay!

Uh, sorry for everyone else that can't, though.

I can run this just over recommended, and I'm happy with that.

For a game that is at the very least a year off, that's pretty good.

Protip: Don't buy hardware for this game until it is released, you'll save money.

Pretty low requirements. I can easily run it.

I hit the recommended requirements.

But yeah this isn't Blizzards info. And they have yet to confirm or deny this right?

Right. The specs are from a Spanish magazine's preview.

I have no reasons to believe this info, and no reasons not to, so I give it the benefit of the doubt. I'm too indifferent to be skeptical of everything.

Im with animateria and trev, this info doesnt seem to come from Blizzard...
we dont even have a release date... if the game is a year away, the specs are still a little bit over what Blizzard usually goes to.

I have no idea if my computer can run this game or not. Pretty sure it can if it can handle WoW (both use the same graphics engine I hearz.

Ultimately, I'll have to upgrade my video card just to meet Minimum. Mind you, everything else is at the Recommended level, but I think I've got a GF6800?

...

And after checking, I see I have a 6150SE. Wow...bringing failure to the table!

Dont worry guys, by the time this comes out you wont spend more than 100usd on a video card to play it. Just dont use the car for a couple of weeks and you will have the money.

Wow, they're even higher than Crysis.

Not that i really care, proud owner of a 3870x2.

but according to Valve's Survey summary. 43% of PC gamers wouldn't be able to run it. (have sub GeForce 7/8 Series or Radeon 1000/2000)
