This feels like it made the announcement-release trip faster than the other map packs. That works for me. I would love for retail games to follow suit. As much as I like hearing about games, the whole "this should be released three years from now" thing has been bothering me more and more this generation.
Back on topic, where I should have stayed in the first place, I couldn't care less about the flamethrower since exactly what I need to do as an invisible sniper is relatively short-range weapon that shoots really conspicuous jets of flame everywhere. Yeah. Super plan. The boltgun, on the other hand, has got to be the single coolest gun from the campaign. Punching exploding, metal sidewalk chalk into people is going to be that much more fun when they're the assassination target.
Two new maps, which look just as cool and atmospheric as the other DLC maps come in the pack. Suljeva Cliffside features the flamethrower, which looks like a great way to capitalize on the assault class's extra armor and rushing ability and Arctower Landing has the Boltgun 4400, which I imagine will make disguised saboteurs dangerous for the assassination mode, provided they can get their hands on it. I have a feeling it's going to be very popular.
Screw you, not-cblog-sized video!
Also hitting the store is the DLC bundle which will have all 3 map packs for a cool $12. It's like getting one for free. I'm picking them up, but I won't get the deal myself since I already own the other two. If I didn't own the other two already, I would probably have hosed things up like usual and thought “I'll just get these now and get the new one tomorrow”, oblivious to the bundle. I hate doing that so fucking much (curse you Fallout DLC!), yet I end up doing it all the time.
Any other dtoiders going to grab this? Friday Night Fights material? I know that excludes a couple people (and we don't want to do that) so, omitting official inclusion, I might start up an open-to-the-world DLC game while other people play 1943. I love that gameplay, but 45 minutes of waiting just to have the game freeze is going to require a sappy greeting card and a tray of brownies to get me feeling positive about it again.
I'm just going to pretend I didn't get this all from the ps.blog.
I have the second set of map packs... and in all honesty I haven't even looked at them yet. If a regular weekly game would include the map packs, then I'd probably get the next one as well... but would hope I actually get to use them!
I do wish that people could enter the game and sit in the lobby during map pack games, but still play the core map games... not even being able to enter the game if map packs are used makes group gaming difficult. :(
I'll most likely pick them up. However, the other packs I have a hard time finding matches for if I search specifically for them. There have been more than a few nights where I'd play a match in the maps that came with the game, spend 5 minutes searching for a game in the dlc map packs, only to find none, and go back to the originals.
I'll do everything possible to get all the map packs.
And Trev, that Boltgun is pretty cool indeed and it it's great for multi-player but my personal favorite in the single-player campaign is still the VC5 Arc Rifle. Not only for the damage it does but for the reload (uhm yeah make that recharge) animation as well.
@Elsa: I do wish there was some solution for that, but I would rather have a small game than have the teams (or just one team) temporarily gutted due to map rotation. Surprise! Two on sixteen.
@Corak: I've had that trouble too, but I can normally find at least one game with the DLC maps going. Played a bunch on Beachhead and Vekta Cruiser last night. I think if you change the filter options and hit quick join it will use your preferences to find a game if it can and then default to just finding a game. I've never been totally clear on how quick join picks your game and tend to only use quick join when I don't care, so I haven't gone out of my way to keep track, but I recall filtering for Phyrrus Rise and getting it at least a few times.
Also Trev, we're gonna play Killzone for a lot longer this week. Battlefield is incredibly fun but it's almost impossible to get a full private room. And yes it froze twice on my system when we almost had the room full.
So to cut a long comment short. Battlefield no, Killzone 2 two time slots.
I'll probably buy it since I've bought the other two, but I only played the first map pack like once or twice online and dicked around in the second offline for a bit and that was that. I just need to get back into a Killzone 2 mindset, but that's kind of hard since I'm in a Battlefield 1943 mindset right now.
@Takeshi: The arc rifle was also awesome, but the boltgun seemed so much more malicious. They're both pretty horrible, but only one of them maims people twice with a single shot.
And double-timeslot Killzone? I'll just have to suffer through twice the awesome. It will be hard, but I'll do it. For dtoid.
Trev, you're right about that bolt gun. It helped me a lot in the level with the snipers while beating it on the hardest difficulty (can't think of the name of that bloody desert-like level right now.)
Boltgun: 1 person twice with a single shot.
Arc Rifle: 5 persons once with a single burst.
I think it's the same level Suljiva Cliffside is based on. I can't think of any other really sniper-heavy levels. It's too bad the arc rifle is so inherently broken for multiplayer. I'd love to have that added in as well.

Now that's hard to beat.
i can wait to shoot some one above me with the bolt gun so they go flying in the air.
i would also like that to happen to me to see the view from the death screen
