Most of you gave some pretty positive feedback towards this and most of you also recommended Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts. I would have and should have added them in but unfortunately I only got around to playing the demo of both so I'll simply agree that yes both games definitely deserved sequels but I didn't play enough of it to write about it.
This one I am going to go a bit more retro and maybe even a bit obscure in this series of "Games that should have got a sequel".
Rock n Roll Racing
This is definitely one of the stand out games of my child hood. Rock n Roll Racing was a fast pace, shoot em up racing game that featured recognizable classic Rock songs from "Born to be Wild" to "Bad to the Bone" in a nice MIDI format.
The game provided the player with a slew of characters, each with different bonuses and weaknesses to their driving skills. Tarquinn for example could corner really well while Snake has better top speed. If that didn't give the user enough choices for different game play there was the vehicle customization.
The player had the option to buy what vehicle they wanted with their winning and then upgrade it later. Did you want to go for better armor or top speed? Or how about just throwing all your money into mines and lasers just to annihilate the competition? Or should you buy that newer, faster vehicle now or just upgrade your crappy car and ride it out til you need to upgrade? The choices were many and provided for a sense of unique game play.
This game could have definitely used a sequel, hell it could even be made in todays day and age and be awesome. Throw in some classic and (good) alternative rock, add more customization options and maybe jazz up the vehicles and make them interplanetary (similar to the ships in cowboy bebop) and you got yourself a game. Unfortunately Interplay is dead and I doubt anyone will come along and revive this once beloved game.
River City Ransom
Edit
Apparently this game did have sequels but yet I have failed to see links of the Japanese sequels. Still think this game could use a US sequel and not just a remake like it had for the GBA. So if someone could be so kind to link said sequels it would be much ablidged.
Robo Pit
I had written up a section on the game Robo Pit but apparently this game did get a sequel but only in Japan. How lame. I would like to lement over the fact that the US never got to see this game but im not sure how many of you would share my same feelings.
And that’s it for this week. If anyone has any suggestions for other games that could use sequels feel free to let me know, but I suppose then you could just make a post about it yourself but to each his own? Til next time friends…
If thats not sarcasm then I'm glad someone knows of the fun of playing Robo Pit. Kudos to you sir.
Yeah I knew that Technos had kind of a series based of the characters/animations of RCR like Regenade(although it came before RCR), Crash N the Boys: Street Challenge, and other games of the types that only came out in Japan. I never knew RCR had a sort of sequel.
