Who am I?

A gamer from the South Side of Chicago. Currently going to college for a Computer Science degree and looking into a course for C# certification so I can become a business applications programmer (gaming programming just isn't worth it).

What do I do?

Play games, play sports (european and american football), read a lot, go to the pub (need a new one, got banned from my old one), program crappy little applications, and so on.

Electronic Gaming Monthly? More like Console Gaming Monthly...

First off, before I go on this rant note that I have nothing against consoles or magazines who favor consoles over the PC. With that in mind, lets continue with the story...

So I was reading this months issue of EGM they had some sections about the console "election" of 2008 and who might win. In each of these sections they would talk about the console and list games and descriptions of them that will be coming out for said console in '08 and the games that were just coming out in 2008.

But then I noticed something, the games that were supposed to come out or that were out for PC weren't even credited. For PS3 they had Unreal Tournament 3, Left 4 Dead, and Project Origin. For Xbox360 they had Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead again, and Fallout 3. All these games listed the console they were coming out for but none had mentioned that it was coming out for PC as well. This didn't just occur in the up comming console games of '08 section, it occurred in their regular review section as well when they reviewed UT3 and labeled it only for PS3.

My response? WTF?!? I can understand that they are geared towards the console crowd but to not even mention the PC versions coming out for said games? What is wrong with them over at EGM? Is it some sort of conspiracy to try to drive people away from the PC gaming market by telling them that nothing good is coming out for the PC? I just don't understand it.

Hell, Games for Windows is a PC magazine and it didn't fail to mention that Alan Wake and Left 4 Dead were coming out for the 360 so what makes EGM so special?

I'm in but I call I get to be the guy who caves in and sells you out to the government for a nice cubicle job.

Anyways, like I said I don't mind that the magazine is more towards the interest of console gamers but they should at least have the decency to say if I game is coming out for PC as well...

PC gamers know when their games are coming out, console gamers can care less. Console gaming is "in", anyways.

EGM never focused on pc gaming...or at least to compare them with the consoles (outside of maybe those hoilday lists.)

I don't even understand why people still read that magazine. All the stuff they write about has already been on the internet for weeks, sometimes months. Their recent cover article about brawl was nothing more then a cut and paste from the games site and didn't have any new information. And their reviews have degenerated into three people bickering amongst one another.

EGM has lost all its credibility.

No they don't have to talk about them but if somethings also coming out for PC they should note it.

Games For Windows has no problem mentioning when something is coming out for Xbox360 (like they did for Alan Wake, Left 4 Dead, and Shadowrun).

true, but Gameinformer usually announces games or gives new information that I haven't previously found on the internet. If anything, I find Game Informer the only worthwhile gaming magazine.

Ok I didn't specify in my article that it wasn't just in that specific articles about consoles. The magazine had just a plain review on Unreal Tournament 3 and it just labeled it for the PS3. And I noticed in the last issue with the Street Fighter 4 on the cover their breaking news on Lego Batman included every system and handheld but kept out the PC.

Yes I am aware its a more console geared magazine and if I want to read about PC games I should get GFW (which I do get) but the magazine is called Electronic Gaming Monthly and states that its the No.1 Video Game Magazine . PC games fall under video games and electronic games right? If they want to be so oblivious towards the PC they should just change it to Console Gaming Monthly instead.

That magazine kind of went to hell after some unnamed point in life, it used to include console stuff, but now it just doesn't even bother. I'm not even a PC gamer at all, and thats still upsetting.

It used to have unbiased opinions and honest reviews, but no, now its just kind of crap thrown together in a magazine. Sad.
