Quick, Name a game series that has gone on for too long!!
ToxinMongoose | 8:21 PM on 11.21.2007 26 comments

Make sure to tell why. I'm curious to see where that point is when gamers get sick of hearing about certain titles.

Now, let me think...

Okay, I totally want to say Megaman, because if I started listing all the damn Megaman games, you could claim you could see forever. Unfortunately, Half of them are totally awesome, and I could go for playing a new 2D Megaman X right now.

Um... Shit, You know what, I'm tired of hearing about Final Fantasy. Seriously. The series ended with 9, Since 10's greatest moment was blitzball. I want to see what would happen if they canceled Final Fantasy 13... Ha! Maybe the Japanese would stop drawing such sexy porn...

I know that Korea would nuke the shit out of everyone if Starcraft 2 was canceled.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Sonic Anyone?

Mario Party. It got repetitive after the first one, and they've somehow made it to number eight.

Tony Hawk

The Mega Man X and Battle Network series are the only ones that need to stop.

Sonic yea, Mega man yea, Tony hawk for sure, WW2 shooters, wrestling games have been going on too long as well.

I do have to say I disagree with Final Fantasy though. They are still entertaining, but what I mostly disagree with is that 9 was the last true one. 10 was AMAZING, I can't deny it, the others i don't care too much for.

Final goddamn Fantasy.

I wouldn't mind the main Final Fantasy series to stop only to make more Crystal Chronicle and Tactics games.

Any sports game, NBA, NFL, Winning Eleven.
Thereīs one new every year, waita bit and brind some difference between games.
I really donīt mind having a not updated roster.
DarkTravesty's Destructoid Blog
mario, zelda, final fantasy anything, sports games in general

I second Halo. Marathon should have been the series running on, not Halo.

Also seconding the sports games that are identical except the roster.

I don't actually have any original thoughts of my own.

My gut reaction to the title was Final Fantasy.

Mario Party. Every one loves Mario, but Nintendo is just getting desperate to produce revenue.

Any Mario Sport game. Ex. Mario Strikers Charged. Mario rescues Princesses. He doesn't break kids ankles on the soccer field.

Street Fighter. Nuff said.

Zelda. Seriously, how many times do I have to light all the torches in the room? Oh yeah, and not enough Link/Zelda romance. I'm not rewarded enough for saving her. =p

I dunno, Revenant Wings is doing something I never thought possible. Getting me to care about the characters of FFXII.

Madden: Why are people buying this game still?? EA's proverbial cashcow that they milk for all it's worth. Miniscule additions and roster changes year in and out. Amazing what an exclusive NFL license and making money hand over fist can contribute to sapping any real work being done to the series.
*> Ridge Racer. Really?? Namco still puts this out? It's a telling tale when Namco puts this out in the beginning lifespan of any new console. Because that's the only time they will sell this to people.People starving to get something new on their spanking system of choice.
*> Pokemon. I really can't blame Nintendo. They're a smart bunch of people. Just release the same game year in and out and just change the subtitle. Voila! Money in the bank! I never knew how easy it was to steal 8 to 13yr old kids' lunch money for a month.
*> Street Fighter. Great game.. really it is. It's just that they keep making the SAME game for every console. If it glows and makes sounds Street Fighter will be on it. That's for sure.
*> Need for Speed. This series has been in a coma since Hot Pursuit. Pull the plug.
*> Final Fantasy. You know it and I know it. Linear stories? Check! Male characters that are prettier than the female characters in the game? Check! Summon spells that could destroy the planet over twice and yet dont do that much damage to the opponent? Check! Gorgeus CG with slo mo effects peppered in every two minutes? Check!
And finally..finally..
*> Dynasty Warriors. Do I really need to elaborate?

My list would include:

- Dragon Quest
- Sonic
- MMBN/MMSF (As long as it retains its current form)
- Any Annual Sports Franchise
- Any extreme sports franchise that lack the words "Jet Set Radio" in the title (.skate is an exception because it is revolutionary)
- WarioWare (The original was the best)
- Devil May Cry (DMC1 was original was the best)
- Pokemon (Gold/Silver/Crystal were the best)
- Sim City
- Command and Conquer (Red Alert was the best)
- Myst
- Guitar Hero (first was best)
- Donkey Kong Jr. (no comment)
- Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Why don't I hate on Final Fantasy? I can put up with the fact that Final Fantasy will never end because I realize that the creators actually think up new concepts for each game. In each of the main games there is a brand-new progression system (Think of the differences between the Materia, Junction, Sphere Grid, Job System and License Board - for example) and a new story containing characters and locations that will not be reused (except in sucky side games/movies). It is pretty goddamn brave to continue doing this today, don;t you think?

Obviously, Dragon Quest is the real villain. It has never changed in over 20 years (at least not much), and the second it tried every citizen of Japan demanded change - and by change I mean a return to form. This of course happened quickly, and Dragon Quest continued to be absolute trash. Sure I played (and beat) the remakes of Dragon Quest I, II, and III on by GBC, but that was before I realized that every game was exactly the same. After that, I never wanted to think about the series again. If it tried to appeal to me I would care about it, instead DQIX seems designed only for the traditional Japanese RPG fan in mind. To change is to admit failure...

@ Copyright 2007 Agent Chieftain:

Mario Party 2 was much better than 1 and 3 was much better than 2. Mario Party 3 also had a widely ignored 2-player battle mode I found quite entertaining. It seems that this system was diluted for the babies that bought Mario Party 4 through 8. After 3 the series went to shit fast. I rented 4 but wasn't really interested...
Spooky Electric's Destructoid Blog
Guitar Hero. Tekken. Tony Hawk.

I really like Mega Man, but the Battle Network series needs to go. The current ZX series is great though, and what I wouldn't give to see a new entry in the MMC or Legends series.
I'm a HUGE Sonic fan, but the series hasn't been in top form beginning with Heroes -on. I know it CAN be great though, as the Sonic Adventure games were fantastic, as are the Rush games on DS. They just need Yuji Naka or Naoto Oshima back, or at least someone with their vision and control to get the series back on track.
I want to say DDR, but truth is I'd probably enjoy it if I played one of the more recent entries. I'm just surprised it's still around, at least in the US.

 about me

I demand Final Fantasy Tactics!! None of that Bullshit advance crap, because FFTA was like taking a fully automatic Assault Rifle, sticking a knife upon the end and going boar hunting with it. It was a total step backwards!

Damn Squarenix bitches. Someone should slap them. Really.
