I Didn't Like Portal or Bioshock

First Post. Fuck all that 'oh ive been a lurker for a while decided to join blah blah fucking blah'.

I am prepared for the torrent of obscenities and general hatred that will be directed towards me for this - but I didn't think either Portal or Bioshock were as transcendently incredible as they were hyped to be. Now I don't know if this was because they didn't pander directly to my tastes, or because everyone didn't shut up about how amazing they were.

Has anyone here been affected by hype disappointing and leading to an ultimate distaste for the game in question?

I'm fine with people not being into BioShock - but for pete's sake man - Portal is on top of the world looking down on creation. If your biggest gripe about a game is what OTHER people say about it then that's your first problem.

I think hype makes me wary, but I do my homework and I've been satisfied with the games I've played over the last few years. If you didn't like Bioshock or Portal, fine; that's your prerogative.

Sounds like typical anti-hype mentality. Don't let other people spoil a game for you by making you think it's going to be good or bad. You have based your opinion on how good they were with regards to your expectations and boy, can our expectations go high.

It's fine if you don't like a game because no one can like every single game that's out there.

As for the "obscenities and general hatred" you would get it won't be for not liking a game, it'll be for not expanding your points and opinions and bumping other blogs down because as this post stands, it's more of a forum post than a blog and the forums are over there -------------------------------------->

Not liking a game because of what others say shows a lack of any ability to think for one's self. If you actually had experienced those two games for what they were and came out disappointed, then you should elaborate on why. Cereal.

It's fine to not like a game, but for the proper sense of a blog a little explanation would be nice to turn it into a real post. No matter what the hype or the popularity of the game is, even if you like a game, there has to be reasons why, and the community would like to hear them... That's why it's a community.

Grammar and spelling are to be applauded, but you need to explain a bit why you didn't like them. I didn't like Bioshock's gameplay, didn't think it did anything particularly exciting or special but stuck around the for the story. Portal however was my sole justification for buying The Orange Box.

You need to explain why you don't like Portal.

Hype can ruin. Great expectations are really hard to satisfy.

Portal was great because it was so damned funny.

SPOILER - I still can't get over bocoming a Big Daddy in BioShock. That freaked me the freak out.

Thanks for the feedback on the first post everyone, sorry it wasn't a more fleshed out blog, I really shouldn't write them at 1 in the morning. As to why I didn't like Bioshock - I thought the core FPS element of the game was under par, none of the weapons felt particularly powerful and every mission in the game felt like a get this, bring it to me, rinse, repeat. I didn't hate the game, I just really couldn't see why it was getting perfect 10's from everyone, when it was clearly not a perfect game in my eyes.

As for Portal, who the fuck feels emotionally attached to a box with hearts on it?
