Nostalgia! Was casually surfing around on some music forums a week ago and randomly found a link to a free little asian instruments plugin. First thing that came to mind? Why, one of the many gems we used to rock on my friends' "199 in 1" NES carts - Yie Ar Kung Fu! It was thrown together at lightning speed though (was so keen on just toying with the asian stuff) so excuse the sloppyness and whatnot, also it's dark because a lightbulb died and I'm poor.




This is all the way from yesterday; Wily Stage 3 (Wily's Skull Tower) found in Mega Man 3. Was watching a speedrun (man I love tasvideos.org (and would love speeddemosarchive.com as much if they had the same video quality & file size (& dowloads/torrent system?))) and got to thinking about why, apart from the obvious fact that I grew up on MM2, I just don't "feel" MM3 as much as several other classic series games. It dawned on me that apart from the legendary title theme, awesome "weapon get"-track and cool boss battle music, the actual robot master stage tracks don't click with me.

I just don't find most of them too memorable and the ones I can kind of remember range from "meh" (f.e. Magnet Man) to well, MM2-good (Snake Man) but unfortunately associated with a stage and boss I'm not digging at all (a running theme in the game but that's getting a bit off topic).

On one hand it could all be the mentioned "just don't like it because I didn't grow up with it", but on the other hand I love both MM9 & MM10, BUT on the third hand that's a bit different too... Meh.

Anyway, so yeah not being too big on the game I didn't play it that much and consequently didn't experience what comes after the first eight that often... Which is some of the best Wily music ever and another (even better?) boss track.

A quick YouTube search indicated that one or two of the other Wily tracks were pretty well covered already, but I almost had a hard time even finding the original of this one and it was just too badass evil and kind of psychotic sounding to pass up. Three hours (well, four counting the video editing; still less than great lighting but I tweaked some brightness and contrast knobs atleast) later and even my "blue-ass bass" (c) gets to make it's debut on video. I'm so not a bass guitar player but shieet, gotta start somewhere.



(Unfortunately a bit of crackly clipping; at least I can blame YouTube for that one since it's not in the source file. Would be sweet if they didn't reencode and ruin stuff but I guess I'll have to try to get around that somehow in future videos, lower the volume maybe... Boo.)
