Not sure how many of you know this, but I smoke. I smoke A LOT. And I've been doing it for a long time. I've also wanted to stop for just about as long. Lucky for me, Nintendo has provided us with My Stop Smoking Coach, a new DS game that's supposed to help you through the quitting process. That'll make it all better, right?

Fuck no. Of course it won't. Don't be stupid.

But it certainly can't hurt, and since I'd already decided I was sick of not being able to breathe, I figured I may as well give the game a shot and see what, if anything, it has to offer. If you were a fucking dumbass like me when you were a teenager and started doing the same dumb shit to your lungs that I did, you might be interested to know whether this game will help keep you from chewing your own arm off while you get over your disgusting addiction.

The fun has already started, and it'll be interesting to see whether I spend more time actually playing the game, or sucking on my DS stylus like a Marlboro pacifier. Hardest review I've ever done: confirmed.

Stay tuned. This is gonna fucking suck.

i am intrigued. i too have been a smoker for over 13 years and its time to quit. i don't think a game would be be any way to it, lots of gum though....and pot. lots of gum and pot.
Kudos on you, Topher, assuming that you actually quit it.
good luck man. hope it works in some little way.
You're a fucking legend.

Hey at least if you quit for good you can buy lots more games with the money yeah? But that sounds like the condescending things non-smokers say to smokers to help them quit. So just ignore this and focus on the first sentence.
Good luck, Topher! We need your voice for the podcasts, so I hope this works out for you (among other reasons)!
I want to also see a review by someone who has never smoked a day in their life.
also toothpicks.

good luck!
Oh man, I love they have a quote from "Sir Anthony Hopkins" on the front. Also my bet, is if someone that doesn't smoke plays it, it will be so obnoxious and annoying they are compelled to start smoking instead.
Newport > Marlboro
What the hell? I just read the quote on the box by Anthony Hopkins, and it just seems a bit surreal to me that you could get an Oscar award winning actor to sit down and play a DS game for the purposes of quitting smoking. Anybody else find that strange?

Also, Good Luck Topher! Clean Lungs GET!
Goodluck, good sir.
That's awesome! I've been smoking for six years, tried and failed at quitting twice, but I (and especially my wallet) have always appreciated those smoke-free times. Way to go, man. I'm excited for your clean livin' and for this review.
You're a man among boys sir, wish you the best.
Good luck Topher! I know you can do this because you're stronger than that and I know you best. :3

It will not only help you live a longer life, but it will help you out in the long run.

I'm proud of you :3 Keep it up and fight the urge!
Having seen several of my friends and my brother attempt to stop smoking, I wish you the best of luck, sir.

As RAB said above me, chewing toothpicks give you something to get your mind off wanting to smoke. Or straws.

Once again, I wish you luck. That's about all I can offer over the tubes.
Do it for JOURNALISM.
I predict failure.
Coincidence or not, and probably not. I quit when I picked up My Japanese Coach for the DS to try it out. Strange enough here I am two and a half months later and haven't had a cigarette since. Not that the aforementioned had anything to do with it, just the distraction, but I can say:

If you can get through the first two weeks, the rest of the month is cake. Then about a month you'll start telling yourself lies... don't believe them! Things like, "Oh, I've been good, haven't had one forever. I can have just one.. or two." Don't LISTEN Topher, they're lies.

Also, it helps to imagine the cigarette like Phillip Morris' penis: Small, but deadly, conniving, and full of rape. ;)

頑張れ!頑張って。
I had no idea that this game existed.
I wish you better luck then I've had.
This is VERY relevant to my interests, I've gone off and back on the wagon at least six different times this year alone, I'd be smoke free for a good week or two, and then get back into the habit at the drop of a hat. Best of luck!
tell me if the games any fun
i dont smoke but i do enjoy a fun game
Holy shit, I thought about getting this game but then I was like this shit isn't going to work. I'm definately still interested though.
One of the most important things about quitting anything is accepting that you're human and you're likely to screw it up, but that doesn't mean you don't have to quit. A lot of people do really well until they smoke a cigarette a few weeks down the track, and at that point they decide they obviously cant quit, so go back to a pack a day. Yes one is bad, but giving up on giving up because of it is far worse.

Unfortunately the strongest correlating factor between giving up smoking and succeeding is the amount of times you try. So stick at it.
Despite never smoking I'm really looking forward to this review. I wish you the best of luck Topher!
While I personally don't think smoking is that bad if kept to a reasonable level (takes me a month or two to smoke a pack), I definitely understand someone wanting to quit.

Best of luck to you good sir. At the very least here's hoping you can cut back on it. :)
Hm, very interesting. If it works I might have to try it... a pack and a half a day is getting too expensive.
Try not to stab to many people if you snap from cravings.
If it works for Hannibal Lecter it should work for you. He was "instantly freed" from his addiction? Really?
The easy way to do it is lock yourself in a hotel room and drink away the addiction.
Keep smoking Topher!

I love Smokers.
i 'quit' on monday.

tea tree sticks. they aren't cigarettes, but they're better then toothpicks.

also, if you can find them, Quest makes nicotine free ciggs, for when you gotta smoke something but don't wanna loose too much of your progress. they taste like complete shit.
I like MC Frontalot's method more than anything:

You can do it. Especially with the prices of packs going up, it's pretty retarded.
OMG Wexx that's amazing.
Best of luck Mr. Cantler.
This is going to be amazing, good luck to you sir.
Good luck, Mr. Cantler sir. Looking forward for your review.
i eat toothpicks when can't smoke. lol.
Good luck topher
This is going to be an interesting review/experiment. Good luck sir!
You must have a picture of you using a cigarette as a stylus. Bonus points if you are trying to smoke through it at the time.
Good luck Topher.
If you can 1CC Ikaruga, you can quit smoking.
Good luck to you sir
Replace smoke cravings with pocky...
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA , stop smoking suddenly with a DS game with the generic white cover? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHA
Good luck, Topher. I really hope the game helps. If not that, varenicline.
