UK tech site reghardware.co.uk is reporting SEGA is working on a new handheld to rival the PSP.
Named the "SEGA Vision"; it's being labeled as a media device, capable of:
* Live TV (built in TV tuner)
* Video playback device (MP4; probably xvid, WMV, divx also; maybe AVC, VC-1, x264)
* Music player (MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE)
* 2GB memory built in - 6GB w/ SD card (has SD card slot)
* Digital Camera (still & video)
* Voice Recorder
* E-Book reader (supports E-Books & txt files)
* Games (plays java based games)
* Pocket Sized (probably somewhere between a DS & PSP in size)
Apparently there are prototypes of it available in a crane-prize machine in the London arcade's grabber machine right next to an iPod nano machine. (any1 in London who makes arcade trips care to take some pics & post them up?)
SEGA has told The Register it plans to launch the Vision next year, but pricing hasn't been set.
from the video, it doesn't look like it would be great for games. buttons on only one side of the thing? This looks more like a creative zen than a gaming handheld
yes it does seem awkward for games. It will probably have cell-phone type games. How those games will get on it is what I'm wondering. SD card? download from the net?
as a personal media device it does seem to have the PSP bested however. going just by the list of features.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
As much as I don't really like the PSP, execept for homebrew, I don't think Sony have any thing to worry about.

If this can play dreamcast games, count me in.
Killed it when it said "plays java games." Now if it was a dedicated gaming system then maybe.
