It does seem that a selling point for Microsoft is the whole 360 "and" PC thing, so you're right it would make more sense to simply buy for both.
Out of curiosity do they have lots of free games available? I think that is one of the more popular aspects of the PS3 Home system is that there are lots of free games and free activities.
Personally I think that MS had a great idea with things like 1 vs 100 - a video "tv show" with an avatar audience/participants. It seems they might have been smarter to build on this concept rather than go in the "games room" direction that Sony has already tried.

Elsa: Technically all the games are "free"... they have a one-time-use 10 minute limit. Afterward, you can replay it for free, but it requires 5 tokens to do so (You get 20 free, and I believe you get additional tokens if friends visit your game room and play games on it).
Otherwise they don't have any games that are actually free of charge, they all cost $.50 for one play, $3 for purchase on one system, $5 for both. Although there's always hope for free, I doubt it.
(On a completely unrelated note: Dtoid mysteriously is puking on me and showing the Game Room picture in the banner ad and on the side of every comment. I'm also seeing weird lines everywhere. Hope it's a site issue and not an issue with my computer!)

I really don't see the complaints behind the pricing here (well, everywhere), Nintendo charges around 5-8 bucks for VC games of the same nature, so 3 bucks seems just fine to me. And XBL/PSN generally charge around 5-10 for the classics and updated versions respectively. Everyone is so damned cheap nowadays, sure a cart costs a buck, but that also requires you to drag out the 2600, hope the cart is clean, find an RF adapter to hook up said Atari...blah blah. Most of what you're paying for is convenience, the same reason a 20 oz bottle of soda is twice as much per ounce as the 2 liter.
I like the idea, I picked up a game with leftover points and I've been enjoying it. Especially for games like Finalizer, which I believe is arcade only, thus my only other way of playing it would be MAME. And emulation doesn't let you watch full replays of the leaderboard rankers and other things that Game Room does allow. There is a lot more than just the games, I like that.

.. but Panda, Home does have a bunch of games you can play for free on those arcade machines - the selection seems pretty limited, but you can play as long as you want. Home also has tons of other free games - though I guess they're not really "classics" but they do seem modeled on older games (pool, bowling, the flying thing at the Red Bull section and others).
I don't have a 360... so maybe I'm not quite getting it, but meh... I don't enjoy older games much myself anyway so I'm certainly no expert. Maybe the 360 site is more a site for "try before you buy" and maybe Home is the "play with friends/social networking" thing. I'm thinking that I guess they serve different purposes.

I think the arcade will get better as they get more games for it. I'm personally enjoying some of the stuff they have to offer even though i'ved just been doing demos.(waiting for some of my favs) I really like the idea behind the video feature they have for it. It's cool that some of these games seem obscure or at least are unknown too me till now.
