I agree, the thrill is gone out of the Call of Duty series for me. I watched the E3 footage of MW3 and thought... meh. It looked like everything I have already done before, I am ready to move on already.
I kinda nod to this, Modern Warfare is to Call of Duty, as Medal of Honor is to World War Two. It's not that long before Call of Duty, as you said, starts to wane down. I don't see the franchise' premise as a bad, nor a good thing. But I think it's only right, as it is natural for everything not to last.
What I do kinda frown upon is the thought that, if the "CoD modern warfare-ish" thing is out, Battlefield(the series that's been forced by EA to be their greatest me-too title), might get dragged with it.

"Call of Duty is to Modern Warfare, as Medal of Honor is to World War Two" - I just so want to fix it. Really need an edit button, some things can still be missed after three-four reread.
I feel like the "gamer" fad is probably reaching it's inevitable end. So yeah, Call of Duty is probably a no-go after this year. I've heard significantly less and less talk with each new iteration.
Thank you for putting this piece of knowledge into light. It only scratched the surface, but it really took some balls to do what you did.
Yeah, we're apparently getting a new video embedding system so it's down at the moment until the new embedder is up. :)
Regarding COD... I like the single player campaigns but don't much enjoy the single player. I don't like the lack of teamwork. They are very solitary games and people rarely seem to coordinate or play as a team, regardless of the mode. I do think that the campaigns are good though... solid shooting, not much of a story and they're nicely short (which I appreciate as it's usually a quick "filler" game for me, inbetween playing online games)

@wisearse
Ah yes, the excess glut of WWII games. Even World at War did an okay job at the the whole WWII thing, and even Black Ops has a WWII throwback mission. I like it better when they put a spin on the WWII formula in some way, rather than having you recreate the assault on Normandy Beach for the umpteenth time.
@Balburdia Maker
I was always one to defend COD especially when people got into the hipster-like "I hate COD to look COOL" attitude. I mean if people don't care for it that's fine, when it goes to irrational hatred, that bothers me.
@Elsa
That's a really good way of putting it. COD games always seem to have a short length -- unless you're playing on Hardened/Veteran, anyway -- but I never minded that. FPSes should be 4-6 hour affairs. Any longer than that, it outstays its welcome unless it really spices things up.
