New Phantasy Star Game Coming to DS
Toneman | 2:04 AM on 09.10.2008 22 comments

The newest Famitsu shows that everyone's favorite handheld system is getting it's own Phantasy Star game. The DS version of the popular series will be called Phantasy Star Zero. this new game could have been spawned by the popularity of the recent PSP version of Phantasy Star. According to Famitsu, Phantasy Star Zero will support up to four person co-op via Nintendo WiFi and since it's a game on a Nintendo platform it will also have minigames! The best part of this game, however, is that the characters are designed by Toshiyuki Kubooka the artist for Idolm@ster! This pretty much guarantees that all of the characters will be between the ages of 9 and 16. As a huge fan of the Phantasy Star series, I can't wait to get my hands on this game and all of it's delicious lolis.

PAX Swag Get!
Toneman | 11:05 PM on 09.01.2008 22 comments

I just got back from PAX about 1 hour ago. I can honestly say that it was the best weekend of my life. Not only did I get to play some amazing games that will soon make me poorer, but more importantly I met 100+ of the coolest people I will ever know. Every Dtoider at PAX is the best person ever. Anyways I decided to share with you some of the swag that I picked up over the weekend. Let's have a look!

Here's a picture of some of the cooler stuff that I snagged.

The items worth mentioning in that picture are:
3 Idolm@ster figures.
A figure of Rinoa from FFVIII.
A Pipboy puppet. (Super hard to get.)
A Tank Men figure.
A model of the Statue of Happiness from GTAIV.
A plush mob from the upcoming Twins Skies MMO.
Comics, posters, and stickers.

Here's a closeup of the figures that I bought a Pink Godzilla. The Idolm@ster from left to right they are Haruka, Yayoi, and Makoto. And Rinoa from FFVIII is the tiny one.

And here's the Pipboy puppet, Tank Men figure, and Twin Skies plush.

That's the best of what I got. In addition to that I snagged about a million stickers from various games/companies, lanyards, more posters and comics and a Champions Online backpack that LostCrichton won for me because he's awesome. Hope everyone who couldn't make it this year shows up next year.

FUCK YEAH! Idolm@ster For PSP Announced.
Toneman | 6:51 AM on 07.23.2008 8 comments

Not many people know this but I have a bit of an obsession with The Idolm@ster. Ever since the original Xbox 360 game was announced I've been dreaming of the day that I'll get to play it. However, Namco Bandai has remained adamant about not bringing the series to America. I've downloaded every video of the game and it's sequel off of the Japanese marketplace and I even bought the gamerpic packs that there were nice enough to give to us Americans. I I'm so crazy that I even downloaded the soundtrack and a few episodes of the anime as well. Yeah, I know it's fucking creepy but we've all got our dreams.

Today I found out that my dream will finally come true. Not in the form of a 360 game, but instead a portable version on PSP dubbed Idolm@ster SP. No, they aren't making an American version of it for PSP but I will be able to import it and fight my way through the moonspeak. Even better news is that Namco Bandai is taking the Pokemon route and releasing 3 different versions each with 3 different characters. They are as follows:

Perfect Sun Version
• Haruka Amami
• Yayoi Takatsuki
• Makoto Kikuchi

Wondering Star Version
• Yukiho Hagiwara
• Iori Minase
• Ami and Mami Futami

Missing Moon Version
• Chihaya Kisaragi
• Azusa Miura
• Ritsuko Akizuki

To many of you, I'm sure this means nothing as all of those names confuse you. It makes me happy knowing they put 2 of my favorite characters, Azusa and Chihaya, in the oddly named Missing Moon version which is the version I'll be getting. Right now the three games are set to be released this winter in Japan land and will probably never come to America. Which, in all honesty, is probably a good thing because they'd replace all of the j-pop songs with Hannah Montana or some shit.

The MGO Expansion Fiasco
Toneman | 4:04 AM on 07.18.2008 18 comments

As many people are aware, the first Metal Gear Online expansion came out yesterday. Or, at least it did for some people. If you were one of the thousands that attempted to purchase said expansion chances are you didn't get it. Konami still can't seem to recover from their MGO bad luck that started so long ago with the beta. People yesterday were singing familiar tunes as they attempted to download the expansion and were greeted with error after error. The same things that happened with the beta download happened with this expansion. Some people got it, but a majority didn't.

Konami eventually posted an update saying that the servers were under stress and that they were attempting to fix them. A few hours later they decided to limit the amount of people that could access the download servers at a time, by setting a new IP range every hour. When that didn't work, Konami finally decided to shut down all further functions of the MGO store until Early this morning. Since I was one of the lucky few that got the update before the shutdown, I cannot confirm that everything is back up yet. Let's hope for the best!

Anybody else, that tried, get the expansion?

 about me

My life beyond Destructoid mainly consists of games. I play pretty much everything. Right now I own a Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox 360, PSP, DS Lite, NES, and a PS3. Some of my favorite games include; King of Fighters XI, Dead or Alive 4, Halo 3, Zelda, Timesplitters, SSX 3, Shadow Of The Colossus, Rock Band, and of course Metal Gear Solid is tops. I also work part time at GameStop.

Besides gaming, I'm also a writer, editor, voice actor, and the community guy of KOtic Kitten Productions.
In addition to all that, I'm a prop modeller for New Era Games.
