As many people are aware, the first Metal Gear Online expansion came out yesterday. Or, at least it did for some people. If you were one of the thousands that attempted to purchase said expansion chances are you didn't get it. Konami still can't seem to recover from their MGO bad luck that started so long ago with the beta. People yesterday were singing familiar tunes as they attempted to download the expansion and were greeted with error after error. The same things that happened with the beta download happened with this expansion. Some people got it, but a majority didn't.
Konami eventually posted an update saying that the servers were under stress and that they were attempting to fix them. A few hours later they decided to limit the amount of people that could access the download servers at a time, by setting a new IP range every hour. When that didn't work, Konami finally decided to shut down all further functions of the MGO store until Early this morning. Since I was one of the lucky few that got the update before the shutdown, I cannot confirm that everything is back up yet. Let's hope for the best!
Anybody else, that tried, get the expansion?
man, they are sure milking it
i like MGO the way it is, so I wont be paying for character models any time soon.
@Pedro
the expansion alone is $11.99, GENE+ is $14.99 and includes the expansion plus an extra character slot.
As for what's included in the expansion:
- 3 new maps
"Coppertown Confict" (apparently the map favorite, "Brown Town" from MGO1)
Virtuous Vista (the power plant map in South America from MGS4)
Tomb of Tubes
- Meryl and Johnny are randomly playable if enabled.
- The creation of female characters.
- Survival mode
You can earn points in survival mode to purchase new equipment from the Reward Shop.
Nah man, you're getting a LOT more. You get the three maps, (I've played two and they're really intense), 2 new skills, the ability to play as Johnny and Meryl (fuck them), and a new Survival mode which seems like a 6 player co-op against... CPU I think? (yet only on the weekends at certain times). You really have to see how epic the South American level is. If it was JUST the maps, I'd be iffy, but with everything else, it's well-priced.
The maps and all the new additions were part of the big 1.10 update; the purchase of the expansion pack was just to unlock it.
I have to say that I didn't know that developers could choose not to sell their content through PSN. Maybe that is why the price seems slightly high...(Gonna sound bias here, but that wouldn't happen on XBL).
@video cognito - Fuckin' A!
@TONEMAN
I will also be drawing up a new emblem to see if you like it as I spent 45 mins on the Beta clan tag and it's GONE from my HDD now :( so I need to start Alll over again.
Since I fucking love this game to death I will be snagging the new maps but NOT the new character slot as that's retarded.
QUESTIONS ON REWARDS
Any idea how to get reward points? I have 500 points and have no idea how I got them or what I do to get more....
Thanks!
As for survival mode, I hear it's a 6vs6 tournament that consists of all team-based modes, each two rounds long. The mode is only available on weekends (Friday to Sunday) and I think it only takes place during certain hours of the day.
Also a side note: the new update (1.10, the free stuff) introduced clan rooms, so now you can create matches from the clan menu. I think there's like a total of 4-5 rooms available.
