Destructoid - TheBorbes's Community Blog

About Me
Good morning,

I'm Bob Forbes, or if you're having a moment of stupidity in your grade nine science class and write those two names together, I'm Borbes. I've decided to start up a Destructoid blog simply because I want a space to write about games on an impulse. If I think of something while playing Halo 3 or Rock Band, I'll probably post it here. If anyone ever makes a program that will let us decode our Brawl replays, you better believe Youtube and Destructoid will see'em.

So, not much more to know about me. I'm 23 years old, hail from Toronto on the sunny beaches of Canada. I currently write for the Science and Technology section of The Excalibur, The York University Community Newspaper. Pretty fancy stuff. I also had a large hand in gamersblock.net during the summer, though I no longer contribute for the site. Since my newspaper articles are often restricted by space, they tend to be shorter than I'd like, so you might expect to see some full-length stuff here.

Thanks for reading.

Last weekend Steam had Prey on sale for 5 bucks, and like any thinking man I grabbed it. A friend of mine played and enjoyed it, but never bothered to pick it up before.I like it so far, even if the visuals are dated by now.

The characters come off pretty cheesy at the beginning, but as soon as you leave Earth (spoilers) the game hooked me. There's a heavy sense of atmosphere as you start exploring the spaceship, and for some reason I was reminded of walking around in a kennel. I guess I was wondering what the aliens would feel like hearing the constant shrieks and cries of the humans they're mysteriously slaughtering/enslaving. Also impressed with the aliens so far, nothing seems overly cliched, which goes a long way.

Here's the thing about the main hero. He's not silent, and all throughout the beginning the story has made a point of reminding you that Cherokee faith plays a big part of the story, and every time someone brings up the cherokee faith this dude growls something about it being bullshit. Fine, fair enough.

But now I'm at the part were I've fallen off a bridge to my doom. Then I woke up in a rocky canyon valley, following a spirit hawk and talking to my dead grandfather. He tells me for the 30th time that I need to embrace my cherokee faith, and here's what gets me. The dude is still calling it bullshit. Dude got a fucking bow and arrow from GOD and he's not convinced.

Seriously, at this point you need to face the facts and get on the cherokee bandwagon.

This is what I was thinking too.

"You mean all of that... superstitious bullshit?"

No, I mean the way you got teleported here and there is a FLYING GHOST HAWK THING.

Great game for $5

I like this game because it portrays Cherokee Indians as arrow launching, force field wielding, bad ass, motherfucking super hero ghosts that shoot lasers.

How could you not like it?

Prey is a great game. it just got ruined by shitty mechanics. If you are there you obviously haven't gotten to the death minigame, which is almost game breaking. I was able to beat that game in under 8 hours because of that stupid mechanic.

Prey's a great game, minus the whiny main character. Seriously, long after you as the player get used to the idea of being an awesomely powerful cherokee god like character, Tommy is still being a whiny bitch.

Like king3vbo.
