How do the sales of the PS3 speak otherwise for Sony? They are far lower than either of their previous consoles at this point, and are in 3rd place, which is a first for Sony, ever. Seeing the sales of the 360 and Wii's progress along with Sony, it shows it will stay that way. I still believe that E3 06 showed Sony's arrogance that just because they're Sony they'll sell like hotcakes, and it fell flat on it's face because of it.
Losing almost all of their exclusives didn't help either. I just don't understand how a company can go from being so smart in marketing to so foolish and arrogant.

Recognizing that shovelware and/or games lacking substance are here to stay is one thing. Focusing nearly exclusively on it is another.
Frankly, I don't think the Wii is in permanent danger from losing full-featured, substantial games. There will always be third parties ready to crank one out for us, and Nintendo knows to put more than half of their ass into the major franchises because they're determined to keep people buying them for years to come.
That doesn't mean their focus on casual gaming is positive, though. Considering how the target audience for those games pays little to no attention to conventions such as E3, why was Nintendo so adamant about it?
How about when they begin designing their next console - whose interests will be at sought after? The Wii's unexpected success won't go unnoticed by Nintendo, and there might be an even more radical shift in how games (or toys as they Nintendo admits they are) are played.
I'm sure some really interesting games could be developed for that hypothetical system...
but if the focus is on mass marketing shovelware to the casual market, what do you think that will lead to?

Most of the complaints regarding E3 that I've noticed, are about how the show is a ghost of what it used to be or how the "hardcore" wasn't advertised to enough. It's only one show, right?
I never understood the whole "OMGS NINTENDO WILL FAIL NAOS." It's not as though they stated they were to stop making solid games and devote themselves to casual fare. Plus the fact they're printing money means they're clearly not failing.
