Earlier today (much earlier actually, wow it's surprisingly late) I downloaded the Spore Creature creator and have been happily playing God and creating sins against nature all day long. It really is surprisingly fun and simple, yet it still allows you to create a staggering line up of unique creatures.
It's not perfect though, personally I found it a little bit annoying when it comes to limb placement and editing as you have to attach the limbs by clicking and dragging onto the creatures body. This is fine in theory, but I found myself having to constantly spin the camera to just the right angle in order to move edit the joint in the right way, without moving it off in another direction. This, however is a very small complaint.
I've made quite a few creatures, but I wanted to see if I could recreate some popular videogame monsters. So I decided to make my very own Spore Murloc.
If you've used any 3D modeling program, you will find that you have to spin the camera a lot during the course of your session; you can't tackle a 3D object from only 2 dimensions. I found the fact that everything has to be symmetrical to be pretty annoying, I wanted monstrosities walking all fucked up like.
Yeah, the emphasis on symmetry is really unfortunate. Still, I'm at least glad that you can make a creature that is just mouths yet still able to move about, so I can make my very own huggable Gibbering Mouther. Still, it would be nice if you could crank up the complexity to absolutely cover the thing in mouths.
